Android Auto issues? Or Nav HMI

Update May 16, 2022
I swapped out my cable for an Anker cable.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC...ing=UTF8&psc=1

The charging capability and data transfer rate are the same of the two cables but AA likes the Anker better. 6 hour drive recently and not a single issue.

I also updated the infotainment MAPS from 2018 to 2022. No issues with the front facing camera/nav HMI.

AA has always worked flawlessly for me until the last week. Changed cable, cleared cache, cleared storage, uninstalled/reinstalled. AA works fine my '21 TB.

Anyone else having issues?

My thought is this: I have a front facing camera (installed 2020) from gen5DIY and that requires a reprogrammed NAV HMI module. Could possibly the NAV module reprogramming not be compatible with a recent AA update? I've contacted the company, no response yet.

Thanks.

What, exactly, are the issues you're having?

Does your radio support the OTA updates or did that start in 2019? Maybe check for software updates for the head unit and verify the version of AA running on the phone?

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I wasn't more specific. Android auto pretty much freezes up within seconds of communication with the infotainment in the camaro.

I do believe the 2018 supports over the air updates and I have checked recently. It says my system is up to date and no updates are available while connected to my home Wi-Fi.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current version of Android auto as recently as a few days ago of course always followed by more than one restart.. For reference purposes it is Android Auto: version 7.5.621364-release. I am running android 12 which is also up to date.

On your phone, try rolling back the AA version - "Uninstall Updates" and see what that does. You may also need to look for a specific version APK to load which might just be one revision back.

If you pull up the info in the car, what version of the AA install is it showing?

Also, make sure you don't have battery saver on.

Given that this is a 2018, and AA is wired only, Battery Saver "shouldn't" be a factor as the device should disable that function once plugged into the connecting cable. But, it doesn't hurt to be sure...

If power management is on, AA is put into deep sleep. That may not necessarily get reloaded when charging.

I have this, no wires to deal with!

Power management doesn't directly "put" the phone into deep sleep. Deep sleep is a state where the phone simply doesn't have anything it needs to be actively doing. Power Save modes will suspend background sync and app operation, effectively -allowing- the phone to not only enter Deep Sleep, but to remain there for extended / longer periods of time.

Upon connecting a charger, the battery saver function should itself be "suspended", allowing the phone to come out of a Deep Sleep state since non-battery power is now available for use.

Good call. I'll try uninstalling updates and set it back to factory. That should tell me if it's the car or a recent update.

The "original" version on the phone might be too old, so that's why I mentioned looking for the APK of whatever one version back might be, too.

Phone build date is Aug 2021. I'll try the rolled back version, but I did bookmark the previous versions android auto apks. I'll try 7.2 instead of the 7.5+ I had. I'm gonna go check here shortly. Wish me luck.

I like being wired. I use another app on the phone separately while driving so it's best to have it plugged in. Plus it looks good and is out of my way.

Thankyou for the suggestion though. I have wireless AA in my other vehicle and I do like it.

The original version as well as January February and March versions did not cure the problem. I'm starting to feel it's the car infotainment. Since Android auto works fine in my other vehicle it's not unreasonable to think that. Maybe I need to have dealer look and see if they're is another update even though my system says it's up to date.

Sigh. I hate the dealer.
