KATECH STAGE 2 RESULTS
My buddy just did his 2022 ZL1 A10 with Katech and his was disappointed with the numbers and needed your guys opinion.
His Mod List: -Ported Blower -103 m TB -Upper 2.3 Pulley -Kooks Headers -93 Engine Tune -Roto-Fab Intake His Baseline was 517rwhp and after MODS was 600rwhp given that he only gained 83rwhp from all those mods. What do you guys think?

Dyno numbers are a crap shoot, there is no magic there. They are a by-product of how a vehicle performs following modification. How does the car run? Does it perform better on the street, on the track, at the strip…where ever his intended use is. Does it pull harder, idle appropriately? At a minimum we’d at least need to see the dyno sheet to see the curves and method of measurement.

Now I'm learning , about modern muscle , by all the information I can gather thru , this forum ,U tube Katech , LMR , LMP , and others. The Mods your friend had done , less Cam ,Head porting , E mods an tune, 83 rwhp doesn't sound disappointing.
Would of been nice as stated above to have a base line ET , Track time , to compare too. That being said , feel of the pants in the driver's seat should feel impressive, 83 HP back in my day , took way more mods than bolt ons, Compression, Cam ,big port work (before aftermarket heads available) strong internals , along with top of the line headers , blueprinted Holley Carberter. Modern muscle has com a long way from the days past.

I don't think those numbers are bad.
That seems like a good gain. The blower's not ported to race-status, and it's only on 93. Baseline to post-mods' are what's "important", IMO. And - like Joshinator already said: track numbers are what's important. The good thing is both numbers were from the same dyno. Some are more stingy than others, though, using SAE numbers can correct better. Sometimes you can "win" or "lose", in terms of calculated power, but that's a good gain. IMO - get him to go back, get some stuff for E' and I bet he'll be happier.

Hes disappointed not in the 83 HP but what that shop charged for said 83 HP. I feel your pain brother. These shops peddling these stage 1/2/3 packages for obscene money stings when you get it back and for the cash you could have had a maggie installed.
I got my maggie installed and tuned for like $8k all in. Im sure that stage 2 package was close if not more than that... Actually in looking he probably paid about $10k for that... |

Im sorry man. I paid $6995 for my complete maggie kit. $1200 for the install at a local shop - they did amazing. And I paid $750 for Ted to remote tune it. My car made 695rwhp and 630rwtq on that shop's dyno while Ted and I were doing the tuning and logging.
I also resold my stock blower for $2400 locally... So with the stock blower money back Im about $6500 all in. My car made 550 stock and I ended just shy of 700. +150hp for $6500 feels like a decent deal to me. 83hp for $10k seems like you got played by a shop with a big name. Hurts to see people getting this treatment. in comparison a shop like RPM in delaware will do a stage 3 package for $11k and you get all this... Stage 3 Package Includes Professional Installation of Listed Components : - 2” American Racing Long Tube Headers w/ 3” Off-Road X-Pipe - Roto-Fab "Big-Gulp" 5" Cold Air Intake - RPM Custom LT4 AFM Delete Camshaft Package (Includes - RPM Custom Spec’d Cam w/ Increased Fuel Flow Lobe, Brian Tooley Racing Dual Valve Spring Kit, Brian Tooley Racing 3/8" Hardened Pushrods, ARP LT4 Head Stud Kit, GM Timing Chain, GM LS7 Lifters w/ GM Lifter Trays, GM MLS Cylinder Head Gaskets, Katech AFM Delete Valley Cover, AMP Gen V VVT Phaser Lockout, GM VVT Cam Bolt, GM Crank Bolt, GM Front Crank Pulley Seal, GM RTV Sealant, Mobil 1 Oil & Filter Change and NGK Spark Plugs - ATI 15% Overdriven Harmonic Balancer w/ HD Supercharger Belt - Custom Dyno Tune using HP Tuners -Nick Williams 103mm Black Anodized Throttle Body +$715.00 - (Must be done in conjunction with Supercharger Porting) 2017+ Model Years w/ Automatic Transmission add $450.00 |
