i dont know why they dont recommended oil for the diffs anymore. it just takes regular 75w90 with friction modifier. Amsoil already has it in it. its fine to use. i have been for almost 13,000 miles works fine. I just put there ATF in my trans but i did a Hurst shifter at the same time. I think i have a bad 2nd gear synchro befor. havent gotten on it to see if it still grinds and locks me out at 4000rpm going into 2nd. skip shift is turned off in the tune but dynosteve messed up my skip shift when he put a canned SCT tune in it instead of the $650 dyno tune I payed for. It started to grind when his tune would lock me out of 2nd 3rd and 5th and i had to shut the car off to get it to go back in those gears.

I just got in Redline Full Synthetic D4 ATF. No additive is needed for this fluid correct? I had this in my 2010 SS and loved it. I have a 2018 1LE now.

I did mine yesterday. Used Amsoil for the trans and delco for the diff. 26000 and they both looked pretty clean. Now I have to flush my brake fluids before the next track days

Nothing else is needed. Drives much better with Redline D4.

instead of using a 1/8' bent wire you can fill it till fluid comes out then you remove 240ml (8oz)of fluid. To fill you fill until fluid comes out then you start the car with the trans in neutral. Do not compress clutch pedal and idle for 2 min then shut car off and fill trans. the trans actually takes 5.2qts with cooler.

While I am certain the events were not related, about a month after I switched to D4, I had a serious issue with my transmission that required it to be dropped and rebuilt. It was covered under warranty.
I spoke with Tremec and will now only be running their fluid. https://www.tremec-store.com/collect...smission-fluid

BTW - Tremec mentioned that they do not require the 8oz drain out procedure if you use their fluid. That is for the expansion properties of ATF.
The Tremec fluid is almost clear. And it doesn't smell horrible like ATF.

That's a nice property. Is it documented anywhere by Tremec or GM?

Just did this swap, figured I’d add my 2 cents. I saw the PDF from the manual and a YouTube video that says to drain from the temperature sensor, so that’s what I did. I was looking around while I was under there, and couldn’t help but notice the rear plug was lower than the temp sensor. My small brain tells me...I should investigate. I supported the tranny with a jack and a block of wood and undid the crossmember, what a cake walk! Glad I got that out of the way to gain access. Once I took the drain plug out I was glad I did since a GOOD amount of fluid came out! My advice, skip the temp sensor and go right for the crossmember removal and rear drain plug. I had a flickering light bulb moment I’d like to share to help reduce or in my case eliminate the mess from draining. I placed my funnel as shown in the picture to “catch” all the fluid and redirect it right to the drain pan. No muss no fuss! Last light bulb moment was checking the fluid level. 1/8? 8oz? Mechanic wire? Pffft. I slid my trusty iPhone up in there and turned the flash on and took a picture. I could easily make out the level that way and call it good.
PS if you don’t have a MityVac or similar professional grade pump it’s worth whatever they charge x2. I have the MV6400.

I'm changing back to RP GearMax 75w-90 (had tried Motul and it is worthless in cold weather). Thank you for your insight! |

Changed the trans fluid again today, but just for fun decided to pull the temp probe to drain this time (mostly cuz I'm lazy) but was surprised to get 3.65 L. back.
Overall, now that I know its just 6 easily accessible bolts (re-torqued to 43 ft/lbs) to give easy access to the "real" drain, I'll use that route in the future. Anyone have some more input as to the procedure to clear the manual trans cooler when you're doing this? BTW- I did the staff of Ra procedure to drop the total fluid I left in the trans this time . Name that film? |
