MacPherson Strut VS C7 Corvette

I have been looking at the new Camaro for a while but hadn't really looked at the front suspension design until now. I didn't realize that it still uses the MacPherson strut design that I usually associate with non performance run of the mill cars. I have read a lot about how well this new Camaro handles on the track and I am wondering (with my obviously limited knowledge of suspension design) how this car stands up to cars that have a better designed upper and lower wishbone suspension like the C7 Corvette. Does anyone know why they stayed with the MacPherson strut design instead of updating it to the C7 style suspension that seems to be ubiquitous among true performance cars.
