track alignment issue

I need a little guidance from the alignment experts here.

I have Michelin PS4S's on my 1LE and had the track alignment done several thousand miles back. I do NOT track the car, but the consensus that I've seen has been that the track alignment would be fine on the road.

That being said, I corner very aggressively at times, conditions permitting. I was looking under the car the other day and noticed a thin line of CORD on the front right side tire, at the very inside of the tire, like where the tread meets the shoulder. The perplexing thing to me is that tread wear is virtually even across the entire tread. My tire guy who did the track alignment, and gave me the printout showing the proper specs, tells me the only way for this to happen is that when the car is cornering hard, the camber angle increases and puts the tire right at the edge of the tread. This sounds odd to me because what would this look like if I was tracking the car?!?

I am no expert, so I am looking for knowledgeable folks to chime in. Thanks for the help.

I am just guessing here, but I have 2 theories...

1.) Michelin uses different compounds on different areas of these tires, maybe they are using a softer compound on the inner edges like they do on the outer edges??

2.) AND more likely... The SS 1LE alignment specs were designed around the GY SC G3 tires, hell the tire itself was designed for the car. If you look at a brand new GY SC G3 tire, they have more tread on the inner edge to counteract the additional neg. camber these cars run. I read an article about it actually a while ago, but I don't remember from where.

That tire is unsafe. I'd guess the front toe is out excessively.

Yeah, I agree, that isn't a normal wear issue otherwise the rest of the inner edge would be worn down as well.

That is either a tire defect or a bad toe setting.

I would agree that the toe was not set once the track setting alignment was done. I have the track setting alignment on my car and have 3 full track days on the original set. I am now just replacing my tires at 7k. I do have inner wear but even across and the outer edge is healthy. It's hard to get even wear on a street driven car and tracking it unless you take out the track alignment out.

My suggestion is set the camber -1 to -1.5 deg and not the full -2 deg and ensure the toe setting is dead on or near the street setting.

Just FYI, I run the track alignment on my car full time and it is only street driven and my wear is pretty even. Mixed driving, with on/off ramps at speed.

Granted I am on the F1 SC G3 tires though.

That looks like something is rubbing to me....
I'm not sure how toe would affect that far down the edge of the tire.

I'd pull the wheel off and look for something collecting rubber/cord bits.

That sounds like the most plausible reason so far.

It is definitely a wear pattern that doesn't fit from something you would normally come across.
