Why not just run the type of fluid that the manual for your actual car specifies?

eLSD is the same across the GM lineup. I find it interesting that in the other GM models with the same diff it specifically calls for Dexron-VI. Though in the Camaro manual it only says 75w90 LS for V8 models. Gear & trans fluids are similar, would bet that you can use either.

I'm not sure why they are different. I swapped my fluid with what the manual says at 1500 miles and have had no issues.

Some clarity on the rear diff. Found this on the Corvette forum about the eLSD - this takes the ATF and wonder how often it needs to be changed? Prepping my car for AMP this week and will be using Valvoline Synpower 75w90!

I am sorry, but you call this thread "clarity"? It dates back to 2015, which is before gen6 got released and pertains (apparently - as it is not completely clear from the post) to early Vette not Camaro models.

It always buffles me when folks will search high and low to find an anonymous internet "expert" and then blindly believe their recommendations vs relying on owner's manual which keeps the drive line warranty intact for 5 long years.

As to frequency: dont know how long youve had your car, but given it is a 2017 and given it seems like this is your first fluid change then id say: holy smokes!!! Read the owners manual: it has frequency of elsd fluid change (and other components) specified very clearly - depending on type of usage (street vs track). This would be time best spent and best advice received - IMO.

Cheers!

Was just curious and checked out the ATS-V, CTS-V, Corvette Z51/Z06/ZR1 manual they all say Devron VI ATF, started me down a rabbit hole. This link shows it is used in the diff but only the differential clutch portion, then diff fill good ole 75w90 LS. No more questions asked

My car only has 13k miles. I'm aware of the recommended service intervals. I get it haha

Sorry to buffle ya! Cheers!

Are you getting confused about the eLSD clutch fluid? That fluid is NOT what needs to be changed after 1500 miles and before the first track day.

As mjk said, it's very easy and intuitive to changes rear gear oil.

Raise vehicle,
Remove fill plug,
Remove drain plug,
Drain oil,
Replace drain plug,
Fill rear end with fluid (1.2qt)
Replace fill plug,
Lower vehicle,
Drive vehicle for a few circles (left and right),
Raise vehicle,
Remove fill,
Check level (fill as needed),
Reinstall fill,
Lower vehicle,
Done

I think the confusion is believing the eLSD constitutes the need for different "gear oil", that's false. The eLSD needs a separate change (when needed, not after 1500 miles) of clutch fluid 5.4oz.

For a simple gear oil change, nothing is special or different for 1le equipped vehicles
I think this is the info I was looking for. I have a 2018 1le and thought the diff would be different from the ss, but it sounds like the eLSD is a separate component that requires clutch/brake fluid.

So with that said, I would follow the same drain and fill with the same fluid as has been written up in this thread. I have 900 miles so I am doing the oil and diff soon.

Great write up, easy to follow and simple job. Here is a shot that shows both plugs.

Mine took about 1.5 quarts before the ooze or more technically about 1,400 ml's. At the time, thought I took on more due to lift angle but seems about right. One more quart gets me another change.

Jesus those plugs were on tight on my car. Way more than 24 lb-ft. I am a big dude and work in a shop all day, and I hurt my hand pulling on the wrench so hard.
