To be fair, 305 mm is 12" and the wheel is 11" wide, so it is pinched a little bit. The rear would be about the same. I don't know how the 3Rs actually measure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they run a little wider than 12"

Another pic of the size issue taken of my tire sets. Confirms what the OP has originally posted. Tires are the same size and the mounted tire set are on stock rims:

I think this is an optical illusion more than anything else. The unmounted stack is no more than 4 inches taller by my best guess just eyeballing the picture. If so that’s just one inch per tire. Which means 1/2 inch per side. I can see tires this wide pinching in a 1/2 inch per side once mounted. I’m just always amazed how wide these tires look once they are off the car.

You can definitely put these tires on a wider wheel with likely good results - if you can fit them without rubbing. The hot setup on an NA miata is a 245 tire on 15x10's. 305's are almost 2.4" wider on a wheel only 1" wider. When I stack those 245 mounted wheels next to bare rubber, the mounted stack is a tad taller.

I was debating for my Miata if I should go with 15x9 or get some over fenders and do 15x10. I'm still like a year out from having to worry about it, right now roll bar and seats are the priority for it so I can be able to track it. But it's still a debate I'm having with myself.

Personally, I like the look of flares. This is my dedicated Track Miata. She is being ignored while I have a blast in my ZLE.

I’m on the side of getting them, especially since I bought it for $800 pre-crashed. It’s by no means worth keeping in any sort of nice condition.
