[VR] Whipple 6th Gen Camaro 1LE

Recently we had a customer come up from the Florida for the Vengeance Racing touch on his Whipple Supercharged 6th Gen Camaro 1LE. This vehicle was modified by another shop previously utilizing a Whipple 2.9L supercharger system on a 10-rib drive kit, AlkyControl single nozzle methanol system, and longtube headers with full exhaust. This combination was good for north of 600rwhp previously, but the customer wanted more out of the existing combination while still having reliability for many miles on the street. For this, we came up with a simple yet effective combination that would help him in achieving his goals. The combination consisted of the following:

• Vengeance Racing Cam Kit Plus w/ Stage III LT1 Camshaft
• Vengeance Racing LT1 Drop In Forged Pistons
• AlkyControl Dual Nozzle Upgrade Kit
• GM LT4 Fuel Injectors
• GM LT4 Fuel Pump
• 3.25” Supercharger Pulley
• Vengeance Racing Custom ECU Calibration
• Vengeance Racing Flex Fuel Sensor Kit

This was a fairly simple recipe for success. This being a manual vehicle we installed our Vengeance Racing Stage III LT1 Camshaft which is our max-effort camshaft for the LT1 engine. This camshaft provides the heaviest lope at idle as well as the highest peak RPM performance of any of our LT1 camshaft offerings. Knowing that the weak link on a supercharged LT1 would be the pistons, and with the engine already being out of the car for the camshaft kit install, it was a no-brainer for our customer to opt for our drop-in forged pistons as well to ensure ultimate reliability at his goal power levels.

Once the engine and valvetrain were squared away, the next step was addressing the fueling necessary to reach the customer’s power goal. When the vehicle arrived it was already modified with an AlkyControl single nozzle meth injection system, and the customer also requested that we set the car up on E85 flex fuel as well. We upgraded the Alky system to a dual nozzle set up for increased methanol output, as well as upgraded the fuel system to the LT4 high pressure pump and injectors. In addition we upgraded the Whipple pulley to a 3.25” unit to make up for any boost lost by the camshaft install. Lastly we installed our flex fuel sensor kit to allow for the ECU to compensate between 93 octane and E85 fuels.

After the install was complete it was time for tuning. With the new combination, the Camaro 1LE put down 702rwhp / 601rwtq on 93 Pump gas + meth and 782rwhp / 651rwtq on E85 + meth! We were seeing some tire spin on the dyno with the cold weather and hard compound tires that these 1LE’s come with keeping the torque number a bit lower than average on these builds as well. The customer couldn’t wait to get his new set up down to the Sunshine state once again for some fun on the street and at his local drag strip! Stay tuned for the next phase of his build coming later this year as we install a new clutch and low-side fuel system to increase boost even further!

Thank you sir. It was a great combination and made some really strong numbers while retaining excellent street manners.
