The Grand Tour Season Premiere

Just started watching it. The first "adventure" of the year is a trip to Detroit to drive a Camaro ZL1 Hennessy, a Mustang RTR and a Hellcat souped up by somebody. Of course we get stuck with James May in the Camaro. May describes the Camaro as standard....brakes, suspension etc except for 1,000hp engine. Of course the Camaro is a ZL1, hardly "standard". Very shoddy.

I used to like these guys now I know you can't believe a thing they say about any car they test. It's probably bad on me for not understanding that to begin with.

The Demon is built by FCA, it wasn’t an aftermarket package.

There is no way that Camaro was making 1000 HP. It had trouble beating the 720 HP Mustang and got pulled by the 840 HP Demon (on the second half of the track, where the extra HP in the Camaro should have stood out).

But still a good episode. My family and I always enjoyed them in Top Gear and now in Grand Tour.

It's amazing that Hennessy is still getting publicity after all the crap he's pulled.

The comparo would have been better with stock cars: GT350R, ZL1 and Hellcat Widebody, but then, the Grand Tour isn't really about automotive journalism...

Yes I agree it should have been with the non aftermarket mods. Disappointed to see an RTR Mustang instead of the Shelby GT350R. Is just a comedy show without performance value.

Glad they shelved the celebrity crap - that was yawn fest.

They could replace it with audience member fast lap from random drawing.

Today we'll have Mary, by day dog groomer, by weekend, well this weekend anyway, she'll be setting a fast lap. Watch out boys, she knows how to use all three pedals!

I actually had that car after they were done shooting. The Exorcist is nasty. It was certainly making a ton of power. I rode with one of Hennessey's guys in it and it hauled the mail.

They went thru 2-3 sets of rear tires on that thing and we were pulling rubber off of it by the pound it seemed. It was rode hard and put away wet.

Either way, it was kind of cool to have the car that was a part of the show. It is just that though, a show.

The car was quite fast.

I remember seeing somewhere that the Exorcist ran 9.50s from Hennessy

That is faster than the claimed "9.65" that no one has touched in a Demon to date.

I don't get how the Demon walked the 1000hp ZL1 at the end of the strip.

I would imagine traction at 1000hp would be an issue. The demon is made for drag racing.

Wasn’t the issue. The Camaro was ahead at the 60’ mark. The Demon pulled on the supposed “1000 HP” Camaro on the second half of the track. If the Camaro really had 1000 HP, it would have pulled on the Demon at that point. Not the other way around.

Anyone who knows the show will certainly concede that James May is the third tier driver.

You can give 1000hp to a lot of people who can still get whooped by a more skilled driver using a 700hp package.

Too bad they didn't use the ZLE to beat the snot outta May while he was willow-footing that Hennessey Camaro.
