Rear axle problems ?
I talked to my local US car dealer here in Norway. They told me that the Camaro had problems with the rear axle of tuned cars, with a compressor, for example. Is this right ? Is this a current issue for those who have trimmed Camaros 5th gen ?

The manufacturer builds components to handle the stock vehicle. Adding power stresses those components. Some have made hundreds of passes at drag strip with the stock rearend. Some not so lucky. It’s a roll of the dice. If you can’t afford a repair you shouldn’t take the gamble. My car is stock with a compressor aka super charger and haven’t had any failures. I have put it down the drag strip but only a few times and I drive it conservatively for the most part. It sure is a lot of fun.

Manuals seem to have a higher chance of snapping axles than automatics. But like stated they are made to handle stock power any more thrown at it is always a gamble. The 1,000 hp axels seem to work great for people who are boosted.

I have an extra set of SS axles but shipping would be expensive.

About 4 years ago with my HP automatic, I had the lower grade GeForce axles. I was in a parking lot and as I was stopping, I decided to blip the throttle and snapped one of their axles. Since then, I have their top of the line ones that have worked well for me.
My point is, even with higher quality, in the right conditions it can still happen.

Thanks for reply
So it's drive shafts AND differential that's the weak point? |

I'm not sure that I would call either a weak point. Their are a lot of people on here that run supercharged or turbo that haven't had a problem with the stock diff or axles. It depends on what you are doing with the car.

I wouldn't call them weak. Maybe just over abused or they had some manufacturing defects. Who knows. My 2011's been tuned with toque managment pretty much removed. I've got 3.91's and have beaten the crap out of it occasionally over the years with no issue. But I don't do it all the time.

It was early 2010 builds. Not all. There are plenty of modded cars on here running stock suspension includi g axles.
