Diminished Value Claim

So a little under a year ago I had a minor incident where a flying piece of plywood hit me on the interstate. Car lost coolant and car got towed to dealer. 2 weeks later, comp claim on insurance for 3,500 damage. $500 deductible. Sucks but whatever, Atleast my insurance didn't go up.

Should I have looked into a diminshed value claim? I don't want my rates to go up but my carfax does show an incident now.

I literally didn't know this was a thing until just now. I'll be looking into this for sure for something that happened to my car recently

Diminished value is completely state by state. Some states don't let you recover it at all others only let you recover when you were not at fault. Best thing is to look up your individual states rules.

And I believe you cannot use your own insurance to claim diminished value.
