I was actually told that my old 5th gen needed a timing chain cover reseal because the heat of Florida combined with the "increased internal pressure" due to the catch can I installed caused my timing chain cover to leak oil a little.

I have no idea if any of that's true or not. But I couldn't hire a lawyer to argue, they voided my warranty because of it.

So it can and does happen.

I have elite X2 dual outlet plus elite clean side. I don't care about the warranty and it work well in my opinion.

Once you alter a emission control device to not work as designed, they don't need to prove anything to deny coverage.

That's not how warranty laws work - they bluffed both of you.

1. They would have to prove that your catch can caused any added pressure to the crankcase - until they do, the warranty cannot be voided.

2. Warranty laws specifically state that yes, the manufacturer denying warranty must prove that the non-OEM device caused the failure they are claiming wasn't a result of something else.

Last - Mighty Mouse runs a check valve and a breather for these reasons. I believe both them and Elite will also stand up against any denied warranty claims.

I've worked in service for over 22 years and have overseen tens of thousands of warranty claims. I'm quite aware what can and can't be covered. You are modifying a emission control device which by law is illegal. At that point there is not any burden of proof needed by a manufacturer to deny coverage. It even says it clearly in most every warranty booklet sold with any new car that if you modify an emission component, that part of the warranty will be waived. You can argue all you want but nobody here is ever going to fight a warranty denial. You'd spend tens of thousands of dollars and still end up loosing.

U should run one. I had them on most of my sports cars but this car in particular being DI is prone to build up on the valves. Decreasing oil mist thru the manifold will reduce build up over time

My take is, GM would have put one in if it really needed it. That being said, I don't have one and don't want to void my warranty so I won't be getting one either.

Do you realize how easy it is to take a CatchCan on and off? I don’t care what anybody says regarding GM engineers! If you think these motors don’t have build up go talk to any custom shop that has a reputation & ask about motors with 20k miles they do H/C/I on and have them show you...

I saw one 2018 LT motor with less than 20k miles and was very surprised!
If you still think it’s a waste after than then it’s no biggie :0)

Catch can or bust! PERIOD! Anyone who says otherwise just isn't thinking right. Oil going through your intake is never a good thing.

All the best,

Jared

Oil has been going through my intake for my whole driving career. I’ve had a couple cars over 200k miles and one to 300k. Seen multiple LT1 cylinder head intake ports looking just fine and multiple post of DI Audi’s and Nissans looking not so good to put the scare out there. I’d say they are definitely worth it if you sell catch cans. If you have to pay a ridicules price just to have a clean intake then I don’t see the point. I’ll bet there are other parts of my car that are pretty dirty as well. I don’t feel I need the attaboy for showing I spent $300+ to catch 3 oz of a gasoline water oil mix on here or in some group on Facebook but kudos to the salesman and the buyers that do.

You get to claim your not wasting money while others get to be proud of the money they spend on a hobby protecting their fun.

Heaven forbid anyone make assumptions about things people choose to do

I installed the Elite 2X, but if I had known what a trainwreck the instructions and parts were, I probably would have passed it up. Hands-down worst instructions ever (as in no instructions, you get to guess a lot) and missing parts. Not a great solution, even though the can appears to be quality.
