for the price I like 5w40 MST...the new Mobil 1 0w40 is fine but I doubt data would prove one has better performance/durability than the other. Both are Dexos 2 approved and that is all that matters in my court.

That's what I put in my car, and then I got all concerned because the bottle does not actually say synpower. So, at least I am not the only one using it. Finding 5w40 dexos2 locally (smallish town Iowa) is a pain in the ass. There's always Amazon.

Now that this oil is dexos2 approved, you don't need to worry any more

with a whipple and tune with cai what oil would you guys recommend?
how often would you change it. I usually let the digital 50% mark then it's new Mobile 5-30.

With the extra power no doubt run a "track oil" so any 0W/5W-40 Dexos 2 oil will work great.

There is a performance manual saying you should change oil every 4 hours of track driving

I think GM recommends this interval to be on a safe side.
For example, if somebody dd their car a bunch, the life left indicates 30% and THEN somebody goes to a track with oil which might be close to being beyond its prime. There is nothing in the manual to suggest one should NOT track the car below a certain life left level...

Last year somebody sent out their oil after 6 track days (say 12 hrs) for independent analysis and it came back perfect.
I believe it was Valvoline and the read out was about 50%. Dont hold me to the details pls as i cant recall them, but it was very encouraging. I change mine when it says 50% or 5 track days whichever happens first. Had done the same in my Vette and tons of track days over 10+ yrs.
She is still going strong (original motor plus a cam) for a new owner and more track days.
