Semiconductor marketing & business operations in Silicon Valley.

@TRZ06, I've been an earthbound avgeek for far too long. Mind sharing a few pointers about how to go about learning to fly without betting the ranch on it? I haven't the slightest clue.

I've heard going for a glider's license first is kind of a cheaper short cut.

That is one way, it definitely teaches you about weather and winds and if you ever do lose an engine in a powered plane (VERY RARE), it is no big deal, it just turns into a glider, albeit with a less glide ratio.

Another way is LSA (Light Sport), you are more restricted in operations and conditions you can fly in, but it gets your feet wet cheaper. In addition, LSA aircraft (being as they are light) give you some good basic sticker and rudder skills, as larger aircraft tend to hide lazy flying (basic stick & rudder) habits.
