SS 1LE clutch chatter/shudder
Is this a normal thing? My car's done it since the day I drove it off the lot with 9 miles on the clock. I thought it might disappear with time but nearly 13k miles later it's still there. The clutch chatters/shudders on engagement unless I let it out at really low RPMs or let it out aggressively. I know it's not my driving style - been driving manuals since the day I started driving.

I sometimes get the same thing. I try to avoid the load/clutch engagement point where it happens of course, but it seems like where that shutter happens is about exactly where I'd want to actuate the clutch/throttle. 30k miles now.
Mine isn't that bad, you can feel it in the pedals and a bit in the seat occasionally. For reference, I have a full bolt on Subaru with aftermarket clutch/lightweight flywheel, and when the clutch gets warm (driving in traffic) the chatter is horrendous to the point it feels like there's a 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurring. Never had an issue on the stock Subaru clutch. |

I have ~ 23K on mine and have never experienced any shudder whatsoever.
Clutch engagement is very smooth and easy to modulate |

Is the clutch in the 1LE different from the non-1LE SS? Regardless, no chatter with my 1LE. Original owner, straight from the factory.

I experience it on occasion as well. Like thebusdriver said, there is a certain point that seems to cause it more often then not.

I've heard the twin disc can make a little more noise. I can notice a bit of noise with mine sometimes, but I've never had it shudder.

I get it sometimes, but when the car is cold.

Hmm... I don't experience any shudder at high RPM.
If anything, I get a little of the "metal clunk" symptom with clutch engagement at low RPM's/parking lot speeds. Apparently that's normal. |

Its from being a twin disk... mine has done it since new... 42K miles later still without issues. I've had plenty of aftermarket clutches on previous cars and they also sound like this... that chatter is due to the twin disk setup..

That is a relief to know. Have been paranoid I was wearing the clutch prematurely.

I've also noticed that I almost have to hold the clutch right at the engagement point as I'm doing a 1-2 or 2-3 shift in order to get it smooth or else if I do a normal gradual disengage and then step out, it feels like I just dropped the clutch.
I came from a 15' WRX and am disengaging the clutch the same way but I guess with the 1LE MT, it's a little different and I can't quite get the same smoothness. |
