JACK STAND SAFETY ALERT ! ! !
If you have any Harbor Freight jack stands (aka Pittsburg brand), you'd be smart to check this out. If you don't, you could end up smashed under your car. Not good.
Everything you need to know is at: https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...of-collapsing/ .

Gotta say, if I'm under mine I always supplement the jack or jackstnds with summink else just in case....
I work in construction and its drilled into us to be risk-averse - can't help it!

Yep, saw that. I have 2 of those in my garage. Luckily I've fully switched over to 4 ESCO jackstands for my daily use, but I did still use these as extras or longer term holding up, so I'm going to take them in once our stay-home restrictions lower.

Thanks. I’ve always been leery of certain safety related things from HF, specifically jacks and jack stands.

Another fine product courtesy of our "good friends" in China. I wonder if Harbor Freight has the same return policy as Discount Tire? (Little old lady commercial).

I saw this on Facebook last night. I know of a lot of people who use their lifting/holding products. I've enjoyed using a friend's low profile, extended reach 2 ton jack in the past. I wish they still made that one because the 3 ton one is crazy expensive and totally unnecessary for our cars.

I can't imagine how many people are running HF jack stands. That is one of their huge sellers.
I have their gray low profile jack. The original version of the same jack that now has the Daytona badging on it. But I don't have their stands.

I had to go out to the garage to check my stands, thinking there's a chance I bought them years ago from HF.
I lucked out, mine are Craftsman stands not HF. It's rare that I need jack stands, so it's been a long time since I had them out. |

I've heard they estimate around 1.5 million stands are affected by this

I have HF jack stands and I have had no problems with them. I get the big ones that are overrated for the cars I'm working on. Also, I usually don't like to go more than a few clicks up on the adjuster stands. That way, if they ever ratchet down, it won't kill me. When I see pics of people using smaller jack stands and they're extended to their full height, I just shake my head.

I always use my jack and jack stands at the same time if one fails the other will prevent a full fall that’s the theory anyway. I will put one under the front and one under the back and have the jack centered hold the car and set down using all 3 to hold the weight. That’s if both tires are off hit The car. If just one only need one. I have another jack so it’s not hindering anything leaving one there. Just don’t forget to pull the ebrake and I still put something under the wheels just in case it rolls. Only gotta do it once when it’s being lifted I take extra time for safety even though not always needed
