Sway Bars

A very good L O N G thread about sway bars that started discussing a bushing problem here:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576751

I installed Hotchkis front and BMR rear bars, I'm currently running both in the middle hole w/ 285/305x20 F1G3 tires. I saw somewhere here that the rear knuckle needed to be clearanced when the rear BMR bar is in the softest setting, it is required. The knuckle pictures are hard to visualize what's needed, but it's clear when the bar is on the car.
Make sure you jack up the suspension so that the bar is level, this puts the link closest to the knuckle to verify clearance. I used a dremel and hand file.

When I put together these comparison charts, the published Hotchkis info was incorrect. I used the values that the tech guy gave me over the phone.
The Hotchkis/BMR combination is balanced when compared to the FE4 setup.

Alignment

The stock rear tow links are a tad bit short and so limit the amount of camber you can get. Toe and camber adjustments fight each other. A fix is to put in an adjustable toe link, I went with the BMR unit. It has the added benefit of using locking plates that greatly minimize the chance of the rear toe moving under hard use.

I can easily get -2 camber and keep the toe @ 0.10 total

Aero

This happened in two steps:
1) When I had the front fascia off for the intended WeaponX coolers, I swapped out the front grill, splitter & bezels (don't need fenders or wiring harness and the ZL1 fascia works). You do need some clips # 11547341. I got them in 10packs from LB Auto Parts, much cheaper than individually from the dealer.
2) Later I added the canards/dive planes
NOTE that I did not change the upper grill, you have to look real close to see the difference.
The comparison pictures are from Badmojo, he did the conversion before me.

Super long thread on the conversion here:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=512449

Post # 133 by AddictedtoSpeed has the high points:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...&postcount=133

I'm not super keen on the look of the canards and planned to only put in the ZLE bezels for the larger opening and "assumed" better airflow. Once installed, they looked unfinished, so I installed the canards.

Geoff you decided not to add rear aero? you are increasing the front aero grip and adding more camber at the front, vs a bit more camber at the rear and the rear cradle.

What is the logic behind this?

My understanding of the aero on the ZL1 is that the full affect occurs at ~ 150mph or so, particularly for the rear wing. IMO the wing is a bit "showy" for a daily, if I need more downforce in the rear I think I'd swap to the SS spoiler with the wickerbill. If I found a killer deal on a wing, I'd look at a second trunk lid/wing to install for track days. I'm not sure that I need additional rear downforce as the rear of the car is predictable. I rarely see over 140mph at the track, the exception is COTA, but it's not in a turn. If I did Daytona a lot, things might be different.

I swapped to the ZLE bezels to get more air to the aux coolers. Additionally I read an article somewhere, can't remember what publication, that the ZLE grill flowed xx% more air than the ZL1 grill. On top of that I think that the ZLE splitter looks good.

The camber changes are aimed at increasing tire life. The cradle bushings were added to tighten up the rear of the car, adding stability.

From Car & Driver...
Or the gaping front end that swallows 106 cubic feet more air per minute than a regular ZL1 at 87 mph.

Buss Communication Errors

I've been dealing with buss communication errors along with the transmission going into limp mode for a few months. I feel as though it is now sorted, conflicts from an OBD-II device. GM has put out an informative TSB regarding devices plugged into the OBD port. See attached pdf

Details about the symptoms and DTCs here: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=590534

To make it short: The OBD-II gauge had a firmware update pending and I ran the car quite a bit with it unplugged to confirm there was nothing wrong with the car. Since the update and plugging it back in, no issues..........to date.

What was needed:
GM 19207043: Front Piston Kit (6 pistons/seals), one kit does one caliper
GM 21012386: Caliper Banjo Washers, need 4 - bought extras (a good thing)
GM 19207044: Front Boot Kit (6 boots)
Brake fluid of your choice, mine is ATE Amber 200

It's pretty straight forward.
remove caliper from car
Put an M10 bolt (so it centers the washers) through the banjo with good copper washers and tighten (the extra washers). It still drips, but very slowly through the threads of the bolt. But it gives plenty of time to swap pistons, seals and boots without concern about running the reservoir dry & you don't have to pinch the brake hose causing possible damage.
Place a short piece of 2x8 board between the pistons as a cushion. Apply ~ 25psi into the banjo port, all pistons then extend fully.
Pull everything out, clean and reassemble. A few of the old boots tore during removal.
Bringing this thread back to life, are these the right part numbers for the vented pistons for the non 1le caliper?

Blue, these are the correct pistons for the ZL1 and ZLE calipers. The 1LE reference is to a 5th Gen I had previously.

I'm assuming you did the front only as you don't have the part numbers for the rear? Is the ZLE rear pistons also vented?

Changed fluid and the filter. The 2020 has a different filter than the earlier ones, ACDelco TF937 or GM 24294355. The fluid was a nice clean red color without any burnt smell. The filter was clean also, just a small amount of material on the magnets which is to be expected. Overall, GREAT!
My hand pump starting leaking quite a bit about halfway through, so I don't know exactly how much fluid actually went back in. I'm thinking about 6 qts, I went through 7. Stephen12ZL1 measured his and it's 7 qts with the ZL1 pan.
The difference in tube length is ~ 1/2"
Questions the trans filter the same for ZL1 - 1le ? If it then I can just run the vin to get the correct one.

I only verified the 2020's, yes the ZL1 and ZLE use the same filter.

EDIT
I'm sure you saw it, but as a 'just in case': the filter bolts are one time use
