From 1le to 2SS
It wasn't by choice. I had intended to keep my 1le til they pried the fob from my cold dead hands! I had an absolutely awesome HBM 1le with less than 9,800 miles on it, purchased from a forum member. Took it home in bad weather (second time ever in the rain), and put it in the garage. The cold weather didn't deter me, I cleaned it to perfection. Installed my GM CAI and had the intake tuned at my favorite dealership. Did a complete service including alignment ($350). Bought a new set of OEM tires. Bought a second set of wheels for all season tires another $1000 (from a forum member). Bought a Mishimoto oil can and installed it $300 from a forum member. Bought a set of Stainless Works NPP axle backs from a forum member (waiting for good weather to install). Bought a second set of fuel rail covers to paint HPM from a forum member. Bought a Vmax throttle body and installed it...and, within minutes after the install, this happened totaling my beauty and my dreams:

That's devastating! Happy you at least get to stick with a 2SS, which is still a wonderful car - but a HBM 1LE is special.

But, then:
But, then: I bought a brand new 2SS. Not a 1le, but a very nice car at an excellent price from Weber Chevy in Creve Couer near St Louis...excellent experience...give them a try.
I searched hard for another 1le in HBM. Found a number of them on the forum, but distance and other issues wouldn't allow me to pull the trigger, but I am very pleased with my purchase, our great grand daughter and my wife are nearly as excited as I was at delivery, and here it is:

So, all's well that ends well!
I received a concussion in the accident and learned a lot about what happens during a crash. The car was hit by a big white Dodge PU while I was sitting at a dead stop at a traffic light and he was doing about 40 mph. The collision was so hard, it knocked my shoes off. I received a concussion, sprained back, shoulders and neck as well as a heavily bruised chest from the seat belts. But according to the doctor, my loss of a lot of memory, terrible headaches and general soreness will all heal in time...I hope.
All of the parts I installed were removed and await the time to install them on my 2SS. A friend and I bought my Camaro back from the insurance company and I now have a second set of wheels and tires for MY NEW Camaro. After he drove it, we decided we're going to repair it and he will keep it. I drove the "down but not out" Camaro yesterday for a few miles around my neighborhood...it is dirty, bent and broken but it is still awesome! It looks pathetic in that state in my driveway. I went out and walked around it putting my hands on it and telling it: don't worry, we're going to get you some new metal parts, put the tail lights back in, replace the crash bar and plastic bumper covers. We're going to replace your seat belt mechanism and make you safe again. We're going to clean you up and win some trophies at car shows...and we're going to DRIVE YOU! (shades of "Days of Thunder?") Oh, and thanks for being a tough SOB and keeping me relatively safe! Thanks to all the folks I talked to concerning the possibility of buying their cars. And thanks to those who sold me the car, parts, and gave well wishes for my recovery. I will post better pics of my new 2SS when I get my wheels installed.

Thanks, man...you're right a HBM 1le is very special and this one ain't dead yet! I had a 2016 2SS same color with approximately the same options. I have to say the spoiler on this one is much more attractive than that on my other 2SS. That was the only thing I disliked about my other car. This one has what looks like a body color 1le style spoiler and I like it a lot better.

Thank God you were spared in the crash and your body will heal completely according to the doctor. Could've been worse if that pickup had pushed you into another stopped car.
I understand the 1LE was your baby, but (and I might be a little biased ) at least the new color is a slight upgrade, and if she was a 1SS 1LE, the silver lining is you now have a few more creature comforts. Good thing you can still transfer your installed parts from the old car, too. My best wishes to you for the next leg in your journey. I have the 2018 service manual, if you need any info for installing or fixing anything, just hit me up and I'll be happy to help.

Sorry, and congrats. Your new car looks unique, I haven't seen a Garnet Red with that stripe before, usually only see blue or black with light colored stripes. Is it silver or white?

My wife is going through a concussion after being rear ended at what was estimated at 60 mph with my wife at a dead stop. It's important to see a concussion specialist. To heal quickly you must isolate yourself in a dark and noiseless room as much as possible. the more active you keep your brain the longer the recovery period is. Good luck with your new ride but healing should be your first priority.

Am i understanding correctly that the photos of the collision in the original post resulted in a total loss?
In the grand scheme of things from the outside it doesn't look too extensive. What was so expensive to repair that they totaled it? Thanks |

Congratulations on the new car. It's good to know you survived being hit that way.
I am guessing that's a 2018? I have a 2017 same color(garnet red). Best wishes on the new car. |
