ZL1 1LE crashed

I've had it for 4 days... 4 days.

Someone cut me off and I chose to hit the center divider instead of them.
Love tap at 5mph. Airbag did not deploy.

Cracked and scraped:
- Front bumper cover
- Driver's side front fender
- Driver's side headlight
- Front lip
- Hood looks misaligned with damaged fender but no damage - may be ok.

Q1: Are the ZL1 1LE fenders and hood identical to the regular ZL1 ? Any way to confirm part numbers?

Q2: What's the best place to obtain OEM parts?

Q3: Whats the best body shop in the SF Bay Area?

Thanks for the help!

Update 11/28/2018 - Dropped off 11/26, sat for 4 days now inspecting.

Update 11/30/2018 - Estimate increased, additional damage found.

Update 12/21/2018 - Hood, Fender, Bumper installed. Wrap scheduled for 12/24.

Update 12/24/2018 - Wrap shop was too busy, closed early, rescheduled for 12/26.

Update 12/26/2018 - Wrap shop didn't have enough material, rescheduled for 12/27.

Update 12/27/2018 - Done - Caught shop abusing my car (on camera)

I would suggest getting the part numbers from the dealer and then just searching the web for prices.

There are a few parts guys on the forum here. but there are other places like gmpartsdirect, gmpartsonline, gmpartsgiant, iamgmparts, etc

Gmpartsdirect is where I went to buy all my parts on my last Camaro I crashed. There and rock auto.

Dang dude !!! So sorry to hear about this. I won’t hijack your thread but I’ll share a brief history of my ownership of my Zl1 1LE which hopefully will lift your spirits a bit.

2 weeks after purchasing one in April of this year I totaled after hitting a guardrail. I was able to get a new one three weeks later in May. Fast forward to three weeks ago, I was jacking the car in my driveway to do the 1500 mile service and the car slipped on the floor jack and landed on the jack stand crunching the front/right fender, passenger door and the ground effects (molding). $1400 in brand new parts and $3000 to paint the new door and fender and blend it with the quarter panel.

Both of my circumstances as well as yours could have been incredibly worse !!! Us or someone else could have been seriously hurt. Car can be fixed and the money it’s going to cost to fix it will be made again. As long as you don’t have any frame issues you’ll be fine man, just replace the panels and move on.

To answer your question.

Front fender: the regular ZL1 has the same fender as our 1LE. The part number for the front fender is 84326265 (for the left one ).

Bad news is that the fenders for our cars are on a national back order from GM. I checked with two dealerships as well as GM PartsDirect and got the same answer from all of them. “We don’t know when GM is going to have more available”.

I was able to find one fender in a dealership in Long Island and snatched it up. Payed dealer markup of $399, from GM parts direct it was $255 but they didn’t have it. Reason I tell you this is because dealerships have a pretty steep mark up on parts. Get the parts yourself from a place like GM parts direct

Go on GM parts Direct and punch in your vin number. You’ll get all the part numbers from there with ease.

I didn’t notify my insurance. I never plan on selling the car but who knows, plus, you don’t want to deal with the inevitable increase in your premium if you use those bums (insurance).

One last thing, DONT USE REPLACEMENT PARTS FROM AN AFTERMARKET COMPANY. They won’t fit as good as the GM stuff. Our cars are so niche and new that I don’t think anyone is making body panels yet (other than specialty shops like Anderson Composites).

Good luck dude, reach out if you need moral support. The car will be fine.

What part of the Bay Area are you near? There are plenty of very high rated body shops. Just depends on where you are at. I’m just south of SF. Sorry to hear about your damage. Sucks but at least there were no injuries.

Very sorry to hear about this mishap.

If you are looking for a quality body shop, you can search for an I-CAR Gold Certified Shop where the techs have to pass certifications.

The fascia is the same minus the drilled holes for dive planes.. you can cut your own holes with a template from an early 17 used bumper or a late 17 on bumper will have scribed marks on the back to follow to cut out.

I just got my carbon splitter from trufiber I have a 1le splitter to let go but its gloss so you need to have it painted flat which you will need to do anyhow if you buy new.

bezels and dive planes will be available to since i have carbon ones from trufiber coming soon.

Damn! Sorry to hear. IDK what it is about new cars, but I'm almost holding my breath the 1st 1k miles or so because stuff like this happens ALL THE TIME. It's a strange phenomenon. I think we're so psyched to have the car, that it somehow invites these kind of issues to remind us it's just a hunk of steel.

@Alain, I spent an hour or so jacking my car up for the 1st time, I can see that it would be pretty easy to have the car fall off the jack. Next time I lift the car I'll be installing the ZL1 add-ons jack points and I'll be getting a set of quick jacks soon as well.

Again, not to hijack this dude’s thread but let me caution you. Those Zl1 lift points do serve a good purpose but they are tough to get to with a floor jack. You can always drive the car up on some sort of wooden planks to gain more ground clearance to slide the floor jack in and be able to se what the hell youre doing.

I learned my lesson, I bought myself a quick jack xl 7000 the next day after my mishap. I’m done messing around with floor jacks for anything other than a wheel swap.

where did you purchase the quick jack from? I heard it hooks up just fine with having lift points from zl1addons that true?

you can upgrade the splitter/grill/canards from ACS composites and go carbon fiber maybe...cost you a bit out of pocket though.
