LT4 minus the blower for Z/28?
Any thoughts as to whether GM would remove the blower from the LT4 and leaved the forged internals to have a Naturally aspirated track-capable engine for the Z/28?
I think it would be an awesome motor, especially if they kept the HP north of 525-ish. It would be a good replacement for the fail-prone LS7 as a high HP N/A option. Interesting to think about...

It would need to be recammed at minimum, not sure if the heads/pistons/rods are different to lower the CR.
Even keeping power at 500 hp/465tq but with proper good tires, track focused conventional suspension, 6 pot front and 4 rear conventional brakes and aero? $48,000 Z/28 that will out handle a base GT350 and is still reachable to the normal class buying the Camaro. |

IMO, for the Z/28 you will see more of what made the old 67-69 Z/28 the car to have, on the new one, smaller displacement higher RPM motor.

It will be interesting what the Z28 will bring. I'm still thinking the next Z28 will have the supercharged LT4.

There was talk of this at CF6 by some of the GM team, now they did not say this was what they where doing, it was what they said they like to see happen, so do I that will be so nice.
What do you think. |

I do like the smaller displacement idea with more RPMS but even ford bumped the displacement for the new GT350 for the FPC engine. I think it is about 315 CI now (5.2L?). And, usually with the smaller displacement the torque curve suffers some requiring the higher RPMS to sustain it. Not always but usually. I just want to see the new Z/28 be a track monster along with the new ZL1.

I think people may be hung up on mid to high 500's for HP numbers.
I'd rather have a lower power number that emphasizes precise handling, braking and refinement at a lower price over a higher powered vehicle with a similarly higher price. Save the ZL1 for a high HP grand tourer with power numbers in the 600's |

I don't know about you but I don't want a Z/28 making 350 hp.

550 hp out of 5.3L without forced induction that meets durability and emissions requirements is likely not possible.
A 5.7L with DI, VTT and a 7,200 RPM red line would likely make about 500 HP and about 440 tq. Toss that into a 3,600lb Z/28 would make for a very quick car. |

That's when smog laws and durability requirements were way different. I don't see a factory 5.0 LTx making 100 hp/l. The 5.2 makes 102 and is a FPC and revs to 7300 rpm to do it.

All they need to do is take the LT1, beef it up and make it strong with around 500 HP (give or take), put the track suspension and brakes on the car, then offer different trims ala GT350, and we have an easy GT350 competitor for the same price or less. I'd love to see this.
But I believe what we will really get is a Z/28 with the LT4 engine and it will cost north of 60K. That said, based on the cars testing, and the different versions we've seen, I wouldn't be surprised at the announcement of a 1LE that comes with track oriented suspension, brakes, NPP exhaust. One or two small performance enhancements such as the new air intake GM is supposed to release soon would also be great...say bumping the horsepower to 470 or so. It would be down on power to the base GT350, but I think it would give it a run, for less cost. I don't see why they couldn't offer this package on a 1SS for an extra 4 or 5 grand on top of the 1SS price.
