Insurance has way too many check lists to actually lower the rates... Age is barely one of em. Being married, owning a home, driving record, which vehicle, etc. I've owned "high performance" vehicles as they call it since I was 19. I am almost 30 now (just 2 more weeks), my insurance has never gone way down. I use an independent agent to cross shop everything available so I can keep it somewhat low but never below $1200 a year. I have an 09 f150 supercrew with 95k miles that I pay $400 a year... I have ZERO accidents, ZERO tickets, married and am building a home now (thus will be a home owner as well)... Highest I've ever paid was $1480 and that was 10 years ago. So insurance going down by a mere 300 bucks in 10 years just tells me that insurance is legal scam. I am just a little bit hoping that the camaro I ordered will drop the insurance just a little bit at least. Evo insurance is crazy expensive due to the vehicle and the idiots driving it. For me, it was only 10 bucks cheaper to insurance vs a 2015 c7 zo6. Go figure. A 40k vehicle vs 80k lol

As for the OP, don't bother with the a gen 5 (not because it's horrible. Gen 5 ZL1 is still a beast...) BUT wait till gen 6 ZL1 if you can afford it. No matter what people say, Gen 6 is a much superior vehicle compared to gen 5.... If you can't wait or can't really afford it... Grab a 1/2SS and you'll be just fine. As for learning to drive and all... I see you are from Dubai... Yes, of course you won't be a fantastic driver at that age (generalization, could be worse or better) but I'm betting you are like a nascar driver compared... to a 17 year driving in the US.

IThe new SS is awesome, and frankly superior to the ZL1 in almost every way. Performance is even pretty close from what we have seen so far. I will own a 6th gen, but I wanted to wait to see what else they release performance wise and didn't want to wait another 2-3 years to buy. I bought the 15 ZL1, but that would probably not be the right call for most people.

We'll I just got a 2015 ZL1 and its a amazing car. It costed me less than a fully loaded 2016 SS. In my opinion any chevy can be a SS, ZL1 is a legend. It sounds amazing and turns heads, I always get people giving me thumbs up or taking videos, nothing like my old SS.

However the 2016 has a nicer interior and way better technology. Also its a new chasis and a lot lighter... I saw ether way your going to have a lot of fun.

My first car was my 70 Chevelle with a 350 small block. My second was a 98 Z28. If you are responsible, the power shouldn't be an issue.

The new SS is a superior machine and its gonna perform better in most case, especially if you get a manual ZL1.

It seems like the biggest portion of insurance is where you live. I have two cars on my policy, and my rate went from $700 every six months to $1,100 every six months for moving to a different zip code in the same city. The insurance company claimed the accident rates and uninsured motorist claims were much higher in that zip code.

I also have zero accidents and tickets on my record.

I bought a 92' Camaro when I was 18 and it was a great car. It had a 305 engine. It had 170 hp with 255 torq....and it felt like a monster compare to the 1978 Toyota pickup I had before it. I did some stupid stuff in that car but I learned a lot about driving.

The cars today are awesome but they are really too much for a first time diver IMHO. But I also feel the same way about social media and allow any underage person to use it...it's too much for them to handle.

With all that said the ZL1 is just not a starter car for anyone. It's the car you trader up to later in life. The 6th Gen SS is a amazing car and would be plenty for you.

I agree with everything you said. My first fast car was a 2011 V6 camaro and I did some stupid things, I drove it faster than my ZL1... When I got my 2012 SS I began to drive careful and learned to respect the car. And now I baby my ZL1, and only get on it at appropriate times. 455hp and 0-60 in 4.0 seconds for a first car equals to a really high chance of death or serious injury.

Below is a 17-18 year old kid who drove his ZL1 into a pool. I'm guessing his parents bought him his car.
