Lightest supercharger system
I'm just curious if there is a noticeable difference in weight between systems. The 1LE is truly an exceptional handling car and if possible I would like to retain as much of this as possible. I'm leaning toward a LT4 blower, but am open to another if there is a lighter option.
I'm not looking for huge power, just 6lbs of boost is fine (550whp is plenty). I had a stage 1 cam in my 5th gen and it drove well, but I do not want to go that route this time. I tried searching and did not find too much info. Any info is appreciated... |

My Maggie added about 60 or so lbs to the front, I think the blower kit weighed about 78 lbs and then all the stuff that came off weighed about 18 lbs. On 6.5 lbs of boost and 93 octane fuel you'll be in the 530 range with a stock 98 mm pulley or you can upgrade as Russ did on his vert I built and you'd be at 549rwhp and about 560 torque with the 95mm pulley at 7.5 lbs. You'll still have great street manners and you'll make the hp above with stock cam and I would recommend going to the rotofab CAI, it uses the stock elbo that you'd get with the Magnuson SC.

Not sure about the total weight increase, but several seem to be hung up on the weight of the additional coolant. I don't know the exact amount the system holds, but I'm guessing less than 1/2 gallon.

I suspect you already have the ZL1 in-tank pump, so that may be a non issue for you and you could easily run 550-570whp at 7psi. Laynlo spends a bunch of time on the scale as he manages his girlish figure, so I am sure his numbers are correct.

Are the centrifugal kits lighter than the PD kits?

No because you do not remove anything to install them.

I took off my driver's side radiator too. Sorry but the plastic intake weights little.
I too am worried, I did these: 1) headers are so much lighter than the stock stuff + cats. I took off some other stuff that ain't needed, engine covers, valve cover covers the studs that hold that stuff up. You can do silly stuff like remove one of the two horns, put the windshield washer bottle into the trunk. BMR mounts, no strut bar (don't know if the 1LE has one). You can go for rear seat delete and lithium battery, I know it is at the wrong end. I've hefted all the blowers under question, and IMO the PD with bracket is the lightest, but total installs probably close...

Man I’ll tell you what. The zip ties, exhaust putty, and JB weld really hold up well at 130mph.
To the OP, the kits are probably pretty comparable. None of them are going to take away the handling aspects of your 1LE enough to notice much of a difference. They all however will put a smile on your face under acceleration. We are pretty lucky to have such an awesome platform and great forced induction kits.

Hah. Duct tape is so 1990. Gorilla tape is where it’s at. I was just kidding around anyways. I would never use those things on my car. We all know the correct way to do it would be to save those products for the customers cars for max profit, then overcharge them, and build my car the right way.
