There was a time when A/C wasn't standard equipment on anything below the luxury car segment. The 2-door 1979 V8/4-speed Malibu that I bought new was probably the closest thing to factory muscle in the traditional sedan-based sense as anything you could get at the time and I had that car built to order without it. All I had to do was not check that box.

Performance cars used to be just about the performance. Luxuries were not just irrelevant, they were seen as diluting the performance intent.

I think you need to look at the interest in HPDE track days now in much the same way as you'd have looked at the early factory interest in drag racing back in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

Except that since road course running has global appeal vs drag racing being principally a domestic USA interest, you really are competing against cars that would not otherwise be considered competitors. And perhaps as one of the new kids on that block as well, when you show up in a Camaro or a Mustang in a run group more heavily populated with BMWs and Porsches.

So is the big red button on the dash a kill switch or fire extinguisher?

Also, why the big skid plate? I can only assume to prevent damage from ordinary road obstacles such as curbs, speed bumps, inclines and what not.

WOW, I love how aggressive Chevy went on this. They're not playing games.

I love the aero.

I just noticed something, if you look at the ZL1 grill and this one the ZL1 appears to be bigger and the grill itself is definitely different. So maybe not the LT4?

I wonder if it will have back seats or no back seats.

And I wonder if the 10 speed auto will be an option.

Why cant this be a new engine that is going to appear in the new ZR1 vette? Could easily debut a twin turbo 6 or 8 that will be put in the new ZR1. Days are coming to an end where the corvette is the "Big Brother". The camaro has grown up and is ready to teach the old dog some new tricks.

The center opening is the same. That is just distortion in the photo. Only the side vents are different.

I hope we get some video soon. That will at least give us a good shot of telling what's under the hood.
