1LE....ZL1 Where does Z/28 fit?

I love the new ZL1 it is truly a monster! However I'm finding the gap between the 1LE and the ZL1 to be much closer than expected. I'm not seeing any difference in chassis and handling performance from the 1LE. Thats not a knock on the ZL1 I think its a bonus for the 1LE.

So if essentially the difference between the ZL1 and 1LE is only aero and the LT4, would GM really build a Z/28 that falls between? That seems like a tough fit.

I see the Z/28 as having a N/A hopped up LT1 (LT4,LT6,LT7) like several others have theorized probably 530's HP slightly lower TQ. I think that in order to be the pinnacle of on track performance from a Camaro, maybe it comes with DSSV shocks and optional Carbon Ceramics. Maybe some adjustable aero pieces like the C7 Z.

So if that is what actually happens I don't see how the Z/28 will fall in between the ZL1 and 1LE price.

What do you guys think?

My price progression:

1SS, 1LE, 2SS, ZL1, Z/28. (Both Zs may be closer in price than expected since one's an all around performer and the other is the next highest up 1LE with much more track focus). I don't think GM will repeat their error with Gen5 Z/28. I actually think both Zs will be much closer in price this time around due to lack of LS7 and CCBs.

Also what do you guys think about trim levels and features on the Z/28? I would be shocked if they kept it as bare bones as the 5th gen Z/28. Maybe a few delete options. Rear seat delete, A/C delete.

As cool as it would be, I hope they don't do CF Wheels like GT350R. Have you seen the replacement price on them? Makes CCBs look cheap by comparison.

If it's less expensive than a ZL1, it should be within reach for me. If it's more expensive, then I'll have no regrets getting a 2SS since that would be the best I can do. I'm thinking it's gonna be a similar price to the ZL1, just with a different goal.

I think it will be more expensive based on the gen 5 ZL1 vs Z/28. That being said, I feel like the ZL1 should be more expensive.

Agree, no need for a carbon fiber wheel when a well designed aluminum wheel can be comparable in weight to what is on the GT350R.

This. Just like last year, this Z will have Expensive Parts, Bits and Tech that will price it over the ZL1.
It is a "Race" car after all, the 1LE is the Track car.

I don't see why it has to be compared cost wise to the ZL1. If anything it could cost about the same as the ZL1. Instead of the cost going into the creature comforts and being able to handle 640 hp/tq, put it into a "hopped up LT-1" aero, suspension, and adding lightness.

The real question is how extreme should they take the Z/28? Just enough to compete with the GT-350R in price, or just leap-frog again as they did with the 5th gen Z/28 and maintain similar pricing?

You bring up a good point. The 1SS 1LE will probably cost about the same as a lightly optioned 2SS. I don't see why the Z/28 and ZL1 couldn't exist at roughly the same price point with maybe the Z/28 being special order only?

It may start at the same price as a ZL1, but look for it with CC brakes to come out more, i see it this way, Members that will order there car will opt out to get the full car at top $ , there going to track the car more then one time, then there will be the guys that want a Z/28 but want it more for the DD, so there car will come with the look but not all the track parts on the car, if GM does it this way they will sale out on the Z/28.

So i see 2 Z/28 coming out, one will be a Z/28 and the 2nd will be the Z/28R

The Z/28R? That would be pretty funny.
