RotoFab, MSD, 95tb, and Tune
This has all been covered well in other threads, but I thought I'd share the results of my mods over the last few months. I did some fairly simple bolt-ons and accompanying dyno runs to track my progress/gains. I wasn't chasing big numbers. Just wanted to see what I could get out of some basic mods done in the garage. I was pretty pleased. I'll post the graphs later, but here are my results. All on the same dyno. Car is a 2022 SS 1LE.
1. RotoFab CAI and Corsa NPP axle back were my initial mods. First dyno run - 412hp, 458tq. 2. Added MSD Intake (non-ported) and Soler 95mm throttle body. No tune. 428hp, 446tq. 3. Today I got a tune and ended up with 448hp, 433tq. That's a 36hp (9%) increase. 25tq (5%) decrease. |

Nice! I am looking at a FBO setup soon but will be doing it all at once just to experience what its like going from stock to FBO all at once. I am hoping for good results, and will be happy with numbers like that.
Here is my planned build: AWE Touring (I have the axleback, going to resonated catback) Kooks catted headers and X pipe, Rotofab, LT2 IM, LT5 95mm TB, and of course a tune.

Nice numbers. I have the CAI, ported TB, and going to do headers and a tune soon.

My impression is that headers should put you guys north of where I'm at, which is great. Headers would be next on my list if/when I get the itch for more mods.

You know the flex-fuel mod is the easiest, least expensive, and by far biggest bang for your buck, right? E-85 will give slightly lower mileage but at a lower price per gallon. The mod and follow-up tune will cost a great deal less than headers (even if you're planning to install headers yourself and they would also require a tune). If I could get E-85 without difficulty (I cannot- dammit), I'd do it in a heartbeat! Have fun!

I honestly need a refresher on the whole E85 thing. I know you install a sensor. I know you get a tune, but can you easily go back and forth from regular to E85 gas? Or are you fully committed to E85? If switching is possible, how does a tune account for switching back and forth?

The new sensor with constantly monitor what's in the tank and deliver adequate fuel/air mixtures that will allow more spark advance because the higher ethanol content is a great octane booster. 30-40HP gains is what I keep hearing.
Kits are available from most car enthusiast retail outlets. But you can fill up with 93, or E-85. Whatever available. This looks like a good thread to pick up some info- https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...light=e85+kits |

This means you can blend any mixture of 93 and E85, and the engine control module will automatically adapt to it, based on the output of the new sensor. You can fill any amount from each fuel: the more 93 you put in, the better your fuel economy, while the more ethanol you put in, the more power you'll have and the cooler and cleaner combustion will be. Note that ethanol has ~30% lower energy density than gasoline, so depending on the E percentage, the car will need more and more fuel (this is why your fuel economy is that much worse with ethanol), and wherever your fuel system hits its delivery ceiling, that's how much ethanol you can safely use. This typically only affects cars with power adders, for example, my fuel system only allows 60-65% ethanol despite my upgrades, so I can't just blindly put E85 in, I have to mix it wih a bit of 93. To me this is worth the tradeoff for 735 rear wheel hp.

Got it. I was doing a little research in another thread while you guys were responding. So with a sensor and proper tune you can basically run pump gas or a blend with e85. Just out of curiosity, how do you know what your optimal mix is?

I typically go with 50-55% from spring to late fall, except for long road trips, I pump straight 93 for those. As mentioned above, alcohol percentage goes up and down gradually as you pump different fuels.

Optimal mix depends on the configuration and fuel system. For a bolt-on SS like yours, e85 straight out of the pump is the best for performance. No need to mix fuels for a bolt-on SS, because your stock fuel system can handle it. When you see someone talking about mix, it's because they have an inadequate fuel system to run straight e85, like with a blower. Superchargers tax the fuel system severely, because parasitic drag uses some extra fuel beyond what the higher hp numbers do.

strange that it would lose tq after a tune. my car gained hp & tq everywhere. id definitely suggest a flex fuel setup. easy install & power. ecu does all the work. the transition is seamless between 93 & ethanol. great addition especially when you can bump compression or add boost & take advantage of the octane increase.

Bolt on LT1 cars can run full pump E. (78-82%). Some of the older LT1's will benefit from a JMS on the low side but any 1LE SS will have the ZL1 low side. 2022+ Camaro's seem to have slightly better low sides as well.

Great info. I just purchased my 2022 two weeks ago. I am looking to do a Flex Fuel conversion, 95MM TB, CAI, headers and a Tune. Would you recommend a ported intake?
This is me weekend toy. Primarily will be weekend driven, but will bracket race it at times. |
