Have a question. Up to what wHP would the 3.91 gears work the best? At what point do they become too high? This would be for an SS w/ Manual trans.

3.91 should have been the standard gears in all SS manuals.

So should a ported TB.

OP, let the modding begin..

As long as you stay NA, 3.91's will be fine, especially for a M6. IMO, they are a waste on FI car where traction is a major issue already. I'm at 390's whp and tq and can spin my 295 Conti DWS's through all of first, second, and into third. Now imagine being FI'd with 400tq by 2500rpm. You'd be better off launching in second.

There are a lot of things that come into play with gear ratio there isn't a HP # that is too much for the actual gear the camshaft power band , stall , tire size all play factors now stock these cars have tall tires with 6 speed trans. And the motor makes power in the mid to upper rpm range so really when a car runs out of motor and starts turning high rpm beyond making power is when your combo isn't working and taller gear ratio should be looked into.

Oh, it does.

It may take a little bit to get it driving the way you want though. I drove mine for a couple months before going to back to Ryan. For me, the only issue I had was the first-second shift. It shifted very hard and was at a rpm that wasn't conducive to smooth daily driving. He tweaked the low RPM shift points to where it now drives a LOT better.

Cool! The 3.91 comes on the 1LE's standard, right? I might be interested.
