This is plain wrong for a SS. The 1LE (manual) is HP limited...I still had ~400 rpm to go at 175 mph indicated. I didn't pump the tires to 44 psi (as the manual suggest) nor did I zero out the camber...I don't know how much, if any that would help (or is it just a safety precaution of overheating the tires?)

Chevy rates the SS at 180 and the 1LE at 175. I think these are very accurate.
Sure a slight downhill or non stock tires will appear to get slightly different results, but a 455 HP ringer cars isn't going to be much different. Most speeds are not GPS numbers either. (admittedly, my experience is the PDR is very close to GPS)

Actually, the gear ratios aren't any different between the two.

It could be the extra aero pieces of the 1LE that help generate downforce/lift causing more drag and lowering the top speed slightly.

I believe that the extra aero pieces, such as the front canards that improve down force, will result in more drag and therefore lower top end.

For a SS drag maybe the answer. However on the ZL1 I know there is a difference between the 1LE and ZL1 ....I have both and the gear ratios are different.

For the SS/1LE, drag is the reason for it's lower top speed than a regular SS, the gear ratios are unchanged.

On the M6 ZL1, it's true that the 1LE version has a shorter 6th gear. However, it's not true that the shorter 6th gear ratio slows the car down. In fact, it goes faster than the regular ZL1, because 6th actually works, instead of bogging. This has been seen in videos of speed runs, where a base ZL1 actually slows down going to 6th gear, but the ZL1/1LE continues to accelerate in 6th. Now if you compared A10s, where both models have the same gear ratios, then the regular ZL1 would indeed go faster, because it does not have as much drag as the ZL1/1LE does.

Good point, but it's really when the idiots proceed to involve the non-idiots in their stupidity that is the concern. This is the one aspect that Darwin didn't have the foresight to discuss, unfortunately.

I'm not disagreeing with you.
However you can't teach an idiot common sense.

Exactly, which is why I get away from the curb when the Mustangs are leaving the meet.

I hit 155 on a closed road in my 20 ss vert - it felt like it had a lot more than that left!

I asked the dealer and they said it is "illegal" for them to remove the limiter an I would have to have it tuned - which would void the warranty. I guess I am stuck at 155 even if I add a roll cage later for a HPDE?

155 is hard to hit on am SS 1le on a track. VIR straights will get you around 145. I'm sure there are tracks out there you can hit 155. Although I'd you're using 18" wheels the car will think you're at 155 when you're not.

Well if it matters, when I had my E85 Tune they removed the limiter on my SS. Shop told me they maxed out the dyno at 200mph with my car. Non-1LE

For whatever that's worth to people.

*shrug*

Without a tune, yes, you are.
