AFM Valves

Whats the best way to temporarily keep these open all the time? I tuned out AFM months ago and wanted to see if there was any sound change with these kept opened. I don't want to have them cut out until I test the sound change if there is any.

You can turn them off with HP tuners. I would think they would be open all the time with afm turned off anyway. Maybe not?

So I think you can do that on V8s. I should have specified I have a V6 which has simple mechanical valves that I believe operate on pressure.

The best way to keep the AFM valves open all the time is the AFM range disabler device that plugs into your OBD2 port. The device does not reprogram the ECU. When you unplug it, there is no trace of it and everything goes back to normal.

I got a Range AFM Disabler a couple of weeks ago and love It! I’m not sure if it’s my imagination or not, but I swear it has a deeper tone even at idle. This wouldn’t seem to make sense as even without the Disabler the engine idles in V8 mode. But I’m wondering if some other valves are open during idle that normally aren’t without the Disabler. Or, it’s all in my head, which is possible.

@caSSTro 18,
I know what you are saying and describing. In fact, all around it seems louder. If you want even more sound, pull fuse 51 to keep the NPP valves open all the time.

My car is non-npp, but interestingly it still has a fuse in the F51 spot. I guess it’s just standard to put that in all Camaros to simplify the manufacturing process? Or that fuse is not for the NPP functionality but for the AFM valves? Idk

If the AFM valve uses air pressure then it seems like the springs would have to be relatively soft. Maybe you can rig something temporary to mechanically hold the valve open for your test?

Yeah, they are really soft. You can push it in with your finger easily. I was actually thinking (don't laugh) duct tape. It wouldnt be on very long. Just wasnt sure if the tape would melt or not. I know people have done this before but the search function on the forums isnt the best...

Stainless steel zip ties? I think they make ones that are pretty long.

Hose clamp might be the best because it needs to be a little wide so it doesn't slip off the top easily. Thanks for the ideas...
