HVAC blower motor access
Got an annoying whirling noise coming from the HVAC blower after changing out the cabin filter. Mice had built a nest in the top side of the filter and some of the debris fell in to the blower motor when I removed the filter. Can get my finger tips into the blower from the cabin filter slot and from the firewall after removing the windshield/ wiper blade valance. Need help in accessing the blower motor so I can remove it and get in for a clean out. Looking for a schematic or advice from the forum.

It's probably behind the glovebox. I'll see what i can dig up.
Any chance you can tape up some 1/2" or 5/8" tubing to a shop vac hose and snake it down there from the cabin filter side? |

Looking at an HVAC unit on eBay, looks like it comes out the bottom, directly below the cabin filter

i just looked it up for my 23 SS. it's involved and includes removing the steering column, dash, and dash structure. this is just to remove the piece above the blower motor, it's buried. i'd try a small hose taped on the end of a vacuum first.

Handier than I would've imagined. It narrows to about 1", making it easier to tape on smaller vinyl hose. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-2...E&gclsrc=aw.ds |

If you're removing the complete HVAC module you'll need to signifivant disassembly, but for just the blower fan/motor, it's not that difficult. I agree with the others though, I'd try and rig up something with a shop vac, and if you can't catch the debris that way, go the disassembly route. My thougt is to take out the cabin filter, put the system in recirculation mode, and put the vacuum nozzle to the filter opening and turn on the blower. Hopefully it agitates the trash enough to be sucked up.
If disassembly is needed: 1) You'll remove the closeout panel below the glovebox with 4 screws. Technically I think this is called a bracket. 2) remove the Lower airbag with 2 screws. Disable the SIR system 1st! This can be done by either pulling the airbag fus(es) or simply disconnecting the negative terminal at the battery. 3) You should be able to see the bottom of the HVAC and motor case. It should drop out after removing 3 screws... I don't know if you'll need to disconnect electrical connectors at each stage to get components out of the way... |

Thanks to all.
I’ve tried the shop vac with different attachments from both sides of the motor…no luck. Also tried using a gas leaf blower from both sides. Something must be wrapped around the blower rotor. I’m interested in the removal of the “lower closeout panel” below the glovebox idea. Could not locate the 4 screws that were mentioned. Any more details on their location would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again! |

But I was saying no risk on having this on hand if other things don't pan out. |

In this same situation now, did you ever figure out how to drop the blower from inside ? I also tried removing the cowl an realized has to be done from inside. If you found a pdf can you please email me? Thanks. x24amd@yahoo.com

It appears that my service manual search was misleading. It appears the motor can be removed from below.
The passenger cover below the glove box comes off with two front screws and two rear screws. They are really well hidden. I removed the passenger seat to lay down on the floor and work under the dash. I disconnected the battery prior to removing the seat (ABS module) and left the seat belt connected so the seat just rotated out and sat on the ground next to the car. Hopefully you have a garage.
