Played Football back in the days, I used to Eat, Sleep and Think Football all the time. Until a knee injury sidelined me from playing Football. To this day it is still the only Real Ball Sport that I enjoy watching. Closest thing to Modern Day Gladiators. Baseball is too long of a season, so is Basketball and Hockey. However, I do enjoy a good Hockey game because of the roughness. Maybe I enjoy Football so much because it is like Military Strategy without any killing. Oh well, to each his own.

Football is for the ADHD crowd. 4-5 seconds of something and then endless repeats of what you just saw in case you missed it.

Why do people like it so much? BECAUSE THEY WERE TOLD TO. It's "the thing" to do. People are basically sheep. I can't tell you how many people I know tell me they are doing a Superbowl get together or party and then they admit they aren't really watching the game anyways. It's just being part of the crowd. Keeping up with the Jones. Many watch it just for the half time show... which is always a big hoop-la that is so unrelated to the sport it isn't even funny. (dancing sharks, seems more like Disney Channel) Why are people told they must watch it? Bottom line: ADVERTISING DOLLARS (to true football fans, I'm not referring to you and I'm not dissing football... I'm just stating why there are SOOOOO many that are SOOOOO into it these days)

Where else are you going to see a bunch of illiterate, dim-witted, and otherwise useless specimens actually make a living for themselves entertaining you so that you don't have to support them with your tax dollars? Well, there is also Hollywood, lol.

Ball sports? If there is no team and a ball involved, its not a sport. motorcross is not a sport, its an event.

Because every kids parents can't afford to buy them a go cart or dirt bike.
I loved Motorsports but the price was out of reach,my friends older brother took us to Cayuga a few times to watch the drag racing when we were 10-12 yrs old. So here is why stick and ball sports are popular: One basketball keeps 10+ kids happy. One football 22+ One soccer ball 20+ One bat, ball and 6-7 gloves gets a baseball game going. BTW I delivered papers on a 150+ customer route for 2 years to buy my first used hockey equipment so I could join a league when I was 11.

Football, especially NFL football, is tailor-made for TV. It is an entertainment event that lasts 3 or more hours. Americans LOVE television. The staccato pacing of football is a television exec's wet dream. The ability to have regular commercial breaks on a pace that TV can dictate must be something like a perpetual orgasm for them.
Plus, the NFL marketed itself perfectly when sports became big TV business.

Correction- if there is no team involved, it is not a sporting team competition. Your definition also excludes hockey, since there is no ball. Hockey is absolutely a sport despite the lack of a ball. Singles tennis is a sport, yet it has no team. Racing is a sport, also called 'motorsport'. Sports require athletes.

While I love seeing them plays happen in sports, you know ankle breaking jukes, one handed stick save, full out dive from an outfielder, half court buzzer beating shot, bumper nudge to loosen them up on the last turn, I HATE THE ADVERTISING. I mean how many times do I have to try an explain what Viagra is and how it is different from Cialis. Seriously. Its a smorgasbord of beer commercials. Refreshing bottle of crap shoved down your throat. Then, specifically football, the TV timeouts! Really! Feel surprisingly better now. Thank you for letting me rant

My opinion/predicition is that the begining of the end of football as we know it has begun. The lawyers and polictical correct movement ( I do not have to take responsibility for my actions / some one should have told me ) has already started.
As technology advances, they should always find ways to better protect from injuries. But, thats not what is happening now. Any person that suits up to play football and says they did not know the risks is either a liar or stupid. Neither one is ever a good thing and should never be rewarded. A sad time we live in. At least we can still own a great cars. JOHN
