Broken Tire Pressure Sensor?

Hey guys, the other day I was driving and hit a bump on the road pretty hard. They were starting a new section of pavement in the middle of the road and it was about 2 inches above the rest of the road. There were no signs!! Any, as soon as I hit the bump my tire pressure sensor in the right rear went off completely. The dash said "service tire pressure system." anyone had this happen to them? I took it to the dealership and they pulled it out and told me it was $130 to replace it. It should be under warranty but when they pulled it out it was covered in electrical tape. They said someone else messed with it and that voids the warranty. Any ideas of what to do?

The part is like $40, I'd fight that tooth and nail. It should be warrantied, it's a 40k car!

only if it failed due to a mechanical failure, if someone else messed with it , or it took a impact, then no way. Otherwise we could wreck our cars and have warranty pay.
