E-90 with stock tune
What problems would someone expect to see if E-90 was added to a stock ZL1 that has not been set up for it ? Don't worry , I have not done that but it is becoming available close by and I am considering some horsepower upgrades . I appreciate any constructive comments . :wave

I'd expect it to run lean and melt pistons.

Mix it down, otherwise you'll be looking at a shiny new LT4 crate engine and your $20k lighter wallet soon.

The stock tune is good up to ~95 octane. More than that, you're going to gain nothing in power.
Adding too much will cause damage, as stated. |

Ethanol has a much lower energy content per gallon than gasoline, so you need much more fuel flow with E. Without a tune your computer will think it’s burning gasoline, and won’t send nearly enough fuel, and that will ruin your day.
Octane and energy density of the fuel are two different things. You could mix 100 octane unleaded race gas with 91 or 93 octane gas and achieve higher overall octane gasoline.

it will go into limp mode when the high side fuel pressure drops below threshold...there is a bit of self preservation built into the stock tune. Definitely don't run E without a tune to enable the ethanol % tables and the appropriate flex fuel sensor kit.

Assuming the ECM is going to be quicker to put the car into a "limp mode" vs detonation happening is a fools errand.

The ECM is very quick and will enter RPM before bad things happen to the engine. It's still not a smart move either way.
