Good to know. I brought mine in to the dealer since it was still under warranty.

All good but I was past my bumper to bumper and tried to see if it would fix the problem and it did. But hey who would not want a new shifter for free

Just got mine back from the dealer for this, a ground on the back of the driver's side head had rattled loose and the ECM and TCM didn't have a ground and that's what caused the issue.

My 2019 Camaro with 9,600 miles just did this for the first time last Saturday. Pulled out of the garage put it in park and then ( shift into park) on the center dash came on. Turned the car off then back on and it went away but then the CEL came on. Called OnStar and told me the code was p0700. The car is now on limp mode and what that means is this, car is in sport mode but when you pull away from a stop it's like the car is in snow/ ice mode.

Got mine back yesterday. Tech verified complaint, no DTCS or bulletins. Found sticking park switch in shifter. Tech replaced shifter.

And I sprayed WD-40 on the switch on mine and it fixed the problem. My bumper to bumper is gone, so it worked for me.

Do you have a picture of the switch and where to spray it?

I do not but if you can find a picture of the complete shifter it will show where the switch is mounted. Sorry

If you're getting a STP message on your Camaro, it's not the same issue that affects the Malibu and some SUVs.

The GM TSB does not include the Camaro.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...86071-9999.pdf

I had the same issue on my '16 Malibu daily driver. It's largely been solved with the wiring harness fix. Still get the STP occasionally, but it goes off on its own after 30 secs or so. For a few seconds of extra waiting, not worth a $500 shifter assembly replacement, which does not always resolve the problem for good.

My 17 SS has been doing this for forever too. I remember seeing a TSB somewhere about it, and if I can remember correctly I think you had to take the same bezel cover off and I want to say you had to actuate the trigger button so many times while doing something else or something like that. I couldn't imagine what repeatedly pressing the trigger on the shifter handle does since the switch shouldn't be engaging but maybe it was something else.

Why Fix?

I get the shift to park message on my 2LT V6 automatic 2017 Camaro. I can put it in park and shut it off and put the parking brake on. Why spend megabucks at the GM dealer fixing a small nuisance problem? I am afraid that I might break something if I try to remove the bezel to spray WD-40. I think I will leave this alone.

I can quickly get the Shift to Park message to go away by wiggling the shifter back and forth when it is put in park.

Otherwise without any wiggling, the message will sometimes stay for several minutes. The radio will stay on, the button on the door handle will not lock the car (use the key instead) and the lights need to be manually turned off.

Please do not use any uncommon acronyms. It drives me nuts trying to decipher what they mean. :-(
