Hood insulation water damage

Anyone else have water damage to the hood insulation? Mine is pretty bad around the heat extractors. Only 2 years old and garage kept.

The white stains on mine were soap from going through an automobile car wash. I was able to remove the stain by carefully washing with water and a microfiber cloth.

Thanks for the replies.

I should have been more specific, mine is actually soft and falling apart where the water has come through the heat extractors. There is a white streaking discoloration too but the felt seems to be falling apart which is what bothers me.

Should gm replace this under warranty? That said it only lasted 2 years and warranty up in a year.🤔

It couldn’t hurt to ask. The worst that could happen is they tell you that it isn’t covered.

I went to my local chevy dealership parts dept; they ordered one up for me. Pretty cheap, I think $30ish plus tax. I’ve learned my lesson: pop the hood open after washing my car to get the standing soap water out of the engine bay.

A leaf blower is your friend. I have one of those shop vacs where the top pops off and becomes a leaf blower. Works perfect as the air becomes warm after a short time running and dries things out nicely. I don’t know how I got along without it, especially doing stuff like wheels, under the hood, and getting water out of the mirrors. I hate doing stuff over, and having water drip out from somewhere just after waxing that panel used to frustrate me. The blower takes care of that.

I was wondering why my Underhood felt is perfect until I read your post. I have a master blaster car dryer I've used since new. Always 100% dry after washing.

Thanks for the info guys. Always used a leaf blower on the outside after washing but never thought to use it on the under hood insulation. Always wiped down the engine compartment just never blew air on the insulation.

As an aside since it's under warranty Chevy is going to replace no charge.

Thanks again for the suggestions

This x100. And the drips never start until you have that section of paint looking good!

Nice C3 by the way. That’s my next project in about a year or so. The Camaro was the wife’s midlife, Vette is mine.

Hate to break it to all cars get old and deteriorate no matter what you do. I have a 1969 Camaro in a heated garage I purchased new and I keep finding things going on. Drive them and have fun with them.
