Will the fans ONLY work with the switch or still work when the car tells it to turn on the fans?

The switch is just an override. So if it is in the off position, the ECM will continue to control the fans as normal! If you turn the switch to Low or High, it overrides the ECM and switches them on to that setting. Thanks for your question!

It does not have a timer, it will run so long as you have the switch in the ON position.
These have been working great for us so far! Sorry I didn't answer your question sooner, things have been insane around here, in a good way |

I run at a very busy track and always have a problem keeping cool in the staging lanes. We were going to hard wire it and run wire for a switch so no need to do that now. They have it covered.
