Replace tire?

Hi All,

Long story short. Winter and Eagles don't mix well. Happened a few weeks ago before I parked her for the season.

I took my car to the dealership for the original work and they noted the tires MUST be replaced cause it's sidewall of course.
When I took the car to my local tire shop they mentioned that strip peeling off is the curb protecter and it's fine as it is. It has its purposes on the track.

I feel the obvious answer is to replace but just want a second opinion before I go ahead with it.

Looks like a hard hit. Could be some internal damage.
Good excuse to get some sticky rubber in the back.

Your safety is worth more than a few hundred I think.

I’d replace with wider rubber.

Please replace. Side wall damage is no joke no matter how bad it is. Unless you love the OEM Eagle F1 Asym 3's Id replace them with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ or 4S depending on when you drive the car the most. I have the A/S 3+ because I love driving mine no matter how cold it is. They are great in all weather no matter if its pouring rain or snow. Never had a single issue with them and they stick like a summer tire. 0-60 average of 4.2 on them.

Also I'm not sure if this is the front or back but do not go wider on the stock wheels. There's nothing to be gained other than saying you have a 285 vs a 275. It has no performance benefit.

This kind of stuff comes up frequently on motorcycle forums. Guys show a tire that has either significant wear or damage, and wonder about replacing it.

Replace the darn thing. Your life - and your Camaro - deserve better.

Thanks all. I'll be getting some solid all seasons since I see no point in replacing a single, very expensive, tire. I can finally drive her on seasons other than summer

Had the same problem and I didn't think twice on replacing them.

Replace the tire! It’s a no brainer!

I agree to replace damaged tires or tires that don't perform they way they should.

By the way that strip separated it looks like a material layer and not a structural component. It probably did exactly what it was supposed to do, be sacrificial.

The bead and the carcass look good. You won't find many people saying not to replace it - self included - but I'd bet that barring another sidewall hit in the same area the tread would wear down long before that strip was an issue.
