Important 2016 TPMS information for SS
There has been some mis-information and complaints about the price of our sensors. So I have investigated.
The current Tire Rack pricing for 2016 SS Sensors is $80. The reason is this is a high speed sensor which has metal to metal contact and is speed rated up to 155 MPH. People have found cheaper sensors that do work and we have them for sale as well but they are only speed rated up to 115 MPH. This is why if you put in a 2016 LT/RS a sensor pulls up for $36 each. I just wanted to clarify so you are aware of what your buying. The high speed sensors are just more money. |

Thanks Rudy, will the $36 sensors still work for us slow guys that rarely, if ever, hit triple digits? If we do, do they explode or just not read proper PSI?

They will still work, but Tire Rack does not recommend them for the SS as there is a possibility for failure and its a liability issue. A failure at high speed could be catastrophic.

Hmm that's interesting. Is there a part number for the correct sensors?

Hmm, by fail you mean "go flat"? Thats incentive to avoid the cheaper ones, especially if you meet triple digits on a regular basis. Being cheap is one thing, dead is another. . .

Could you explain "catastrophic" because Iīm from Germany where you can go as fast as you can ( when possible ) and I donīt want to die ;-)

When the sensor fails tire looses all pressure just like a sidewall blow-out.

Rudy, will Tire Rack ever be price competitive again? The prices for tires and shipping at Tire Rack is very expensive when compared to other online sites. The fact that you guys don't even price match is mind boggling. I honestly have no idea on why anyone buys tires or wheels from Tire Rack.

So thanks Rudy.
I purchased another set of wheels and have PS3+ going on. Apparently there is a shortage of fronts (mid winter - go figure) and mine have to come clear from Maryland to N.California.... So the back two go on tomorrow. Next week for the fronts. The wheels I bought are exactly the same as my OEM 2SS black wheels. They did not come with TPMS sensors. I was going to buy some 3rd party until I read Rudy's info on speed, etc. I ended up buying the AC Delco OEM TPMSs. Better safe than sorry and a very good point I would have otherwise overlooked.

The difference in the 2 sensors is the "low speed" model has a rubber valve stem, at higher speeds the valve stem can lean over and eventually crack or break off causing a quick loss of tire pressure.
The "high speed" one are solid aluminium stems and dont move hence the higher speed rating.
