Help - what is this screw on hub?

Rookie question. Finally putting PS4s on and when removing wheel this screw fell out. Put it back in, but any idea what it’s for? And should I be freaked out it just fell out? 😬

It's for holding the rotor in place to the hub.

It should go back in with Loctite.

It’s not the end of the world that it was loose. As long as your lug nuts are torqued to spec that brake rotor is not going anywhere.

Keep rotor in place, otherwise you need 3rd hand when doing rotor/pads overhaul.

Thanks for clarifying - I was having a WTF moment. 😂. BTW - the PS4s are money. The car’s not nearly as sharp as with the 3Rs but at least I can use up to 50% throttle without an anxiety attack this time of year.

it 100% does NOT have to go back in. It is there only to ease assembly at the factory. There are no negative effects from ditching it. In fact, they are a royal pain if they seize. So, first rotor change I do they go bye-bye

I keep em around but I never use locktite... there is enough dissimilar metal corrosion going on in that area the last thing it needs to be is tighter. I use never-seize. They really dont back out and are often trapped by the wheel anyway.

While you are at it, wire wheel and never-seize the hub surface and possibly the wheel.

Those rotors look like they have some heat to them...

Agree with the idea of anti-seize. These things always corrode. They are really the only fastener for which I routinely have to break out the impact screwdriver.
