Friend Considered Camaro Over Stang Went Bad

Well, I told a friend he should drive a 2018 SS Camaro before he purchases a Mustang GT. So he did as I asked, drove it, liked it, then looked for what he wanted in colors more then options and a descent price.

And back to Mustang he went, What's up with GM ? Are they trying to kill the car, are all there dealers dishonest shamsters ?

The dealer he was at had one, that's qty 1, SS with just a few options stickered out to $41000, they offered him a 1000 Rebate and that's it, Am I nuts or is there no deal to be had on 2a 018 Camaro SS and why do they have only one on the lot? When I say 1, he wanted Gray or Black Base SS with very few options. They had one car. So I checked more to try and sway him back. Here in LV there are very few $38,000 to $41.00 sticker price Camaros to be had unless you want White, which I would not and he does not either.

That's 4 Chevy dealers with less than 4 to choose from, c-mon, no wonder they don't sell any.

Plus Ford offered him a $2000 Rebate and a $1700 Discount on a just over $40,000 GT.

Once again, GM and Chevy are morons, crappy ads if any ads, no inventory on the car lots and lousy rebates.

I just don't understand. Flaps

I see 59 matches within 250 miles?

When I bought mine there were only seven available anywhere and only three within 1000 miles... none had the exact options I wanted.

I understand what you’re saying about the pricing. I tried to buy my wife a 2SS last week and they wouldn’t budge on the price except the 1k dollar rebate. I passed...

This will get worse. Here's why. The Camaro is already a low volume sales car compared to the money makers for the independently owned dealerships which are the trucks, SUVs, family sedans, and economy cars. As fewer Camaros sell, fewer dealers will order them.

The dealer I found mine at had it parked in an offsite lot, way in the back. I asked why and the sales guy told me it was because they dont move many Camaros and was surprised they even ordered one let alone a 1LE. Said he thought it was because a guy ordered one then backed out at the last minute. They had a vette on the showroom floor, malibu's, and a silverado. The rest of the lot was full of SUVs. Luckily, they wanted to unload it because winter was fast approaching so they gave me a good deal at 41.5k out the door with PDR.

The Corvette is the halo car and the rest of the models are high volume sellers. The camaro is neither. The mustang is Ford's halo car (besides the Ford GT which is unobtainable).

When I was shopping, dealers had a cavalier attitude about the Camaro as in they didnt care, didnt stock them, and didnt know much about them. On the flip side, the Ford dealerships proudly displayed several mustangs on the showroom floor, had good inventory, and were proud of them. Why? Because they make money off of them because they sell.

My local dealers had about 5 all together when I was looking, then had 2 or 3 for months, before one dealer had a truckload come in. Doesn't seem like any have a steady supply.

Around NYC few dealers are stocking Camaros or Mustangs. I'm afraid there won't be next generations of either car. It looks like Dodge has no plans to make a new Challenger either. Sad.

2021 for new Challenger and Charger on the outgoing hand me down Mazerati quatroporto (or whatever. The 4 door sedan) chassis. Also a convertible possible (rumored to be the return of the Barracuda). They pushed it to 2021 after deciding not to use the Alfa Giulia chassis and go with the Mazerati instead.

10 years in and Dodge still sells a ton of the challengers and chargers. They are proud of them and market them well. Unlike Chevy.

While shopping, called a dealership. They were happy to assist me in my car shopping endeavor until they asked what I was looking for. "Oh, no we dont have any Camaros, not our specialty, but I do have some Corvettes." Asked if they had any on order. "No, we used to sell them but they sit on the lot too long. I cam order you one, but would need a $1500 deposit in case you decide to back out." Uh, no. Took me a couple weeks but found one.

Was frustrating to see all the dodge and Ford dealerships loaded with stangs and challengers but few to no camaros. Kinda like it now because I hardly see any Camaros on the street and even fewer 1LEs. Seen 2 1LEs in a year and I live in a big city area.

There are 3 challengers and a couple mustangs in my work parking lot alone. Lol

You guys gave up too soon. I bought my car three months after they came out. I drove 8 hours to get it because no dealers in North Dakota had any. I got it for around $2,500 under sticker. But it was exactly how I wanted it. No compromise.

There are 28 SS' within 100 mi of me with 6 of those are 2017's. Meanwhile in the same radius, there are 56 Corvette's.

Not me, I soldiered on and found mine as noted a few posts up with 5 miles on it. Sticker was 45k and got it out the door for $41.5 including TTL. Was exactly what I wanted besides the 1LE hash mark and PDR but glad it had both.

I just purchased a 16 1SS a month ago. While I was looking I test drove a 17 and the Chevy dealer was ready to deal! I went with the 16 because it was black, had fewer miles and had the NPP exhaust. Found mine at a Dodge dealer and they sold it for $500 over cost. Look for a low mileage used 18 or 17

Maybe a California thing, but the local dealership here has 26 on the lot. 23 2018's and 3 2017's. Next closest have 15, 7 and 25. That 73 in about a 30-40 mile radius.
