I might get the elite instead of mishimoto. Still prefer not having to empty it. Is that the proper location or just the best you found?

Not only does it make a mess looks wise in the engine bay and then GM can use it as an excuse not cover engine related repairs ultimately it dosent need it, GM does extensive engine testing, Im not worried about it.
Also something to think about 95%+ of LT1 V8s out there will never see a catch can and will do 200k+ without issue. Check PDF attached, some info about the LT1 when it came out in the vette. Last edited by thescreensavers; 08-03-2017 at 08:02 PM. |

While I do agree that the catch can could be lived without, I run one (have through 5 Corvettes, including a C7). The amount it catches and the filth I found on my intake valves when I removed the intake on the C7 at 14k (I bought it then) keeps me running one. Do you HAVE to have one? No, absolutely not. I run one though for sure. I think the Mishimoto/Elite question is preference. I've always run Elite (because I've been running them for 12 years), but dig the Mishimoto design as well. Good stuff!

Just added a Mishimoto yesterday (should have bought right away...have 2600 miles on my car...but at least I got it done). It was pretty easy to install. Having the convertible, I had the extra step of removing the strut tower brace

I bought one, never installed it. Actually forgot I had it in my garage until I saw this post.

Camaro LT1 has been tweaked by GM ("20%" apparently) regarding intake, exhaust and oil return architecture. It is also wet vs dry sump as in a Vette. Regardless, 5 year power train warranty is where it is at for me, so zero mods planned. Ran a C5 Z06 for several yrs (on track) without a can with no issues.

I run a catch can, it went on at 1500 miles after my first oil change. IMO running a catch can on a car with direct injection is a very good idea.

Completely agree: different injection systems, but a catch can is much older than direct injection and I am yet to see any can NOT catching some oil regardless of injection design. In any case, zero mods of any kind for me as I like the warranty. Motors can go "boom" catch can or not. And if mine goes I simply want a complete peace of mind. And I am not planning on keeping the car beyond 5 yrs/160,000km.
