A8 trans flush NOT done by dealership?
Has anyone had the A8 trans flush done by anyone other than the dealership? Did it work and what all was involved, i.e. what does the dealership do that a typical mechanic can not?? I’m trying to resolve my shudder but not covered under warranty.

The dealership has the actual machine that will flush the system entirely while a normal shop may do a typical oil change where the residual fluid will be in the system still.
According to the TSB for the shudder, the machine they use is a DT-45096 TransFlow to do the flush. I was in your shoes a month ago, 75k miles and warranties long gone. Shudder appeared and I had the choice between the dealership or do it myself. I did buy the fluid and filter but decided to go to the dealership and have them do it as a nearby dealership had a ok special on the transmission flush. I believe in parts alone I spent $110 for the fluid and filter (fluid from OfferUp, filter from parts dept.) which I ended up not using. The dealership running the special said $175 for transmission service, total being $192 for the flush after taxes. No shudder since and I think the extra 80 was worth it as long as it doesn't return. |

I paid $220 at my dealer. They wouldn't honor the service bulletin since I wasn't experiencing shudder, but I wanted it done for peace of mind. 34k on it without any issues.

I thought they were supposed to do it regardless. Will they only do it if the shuddering can be replicated? I thought they would do it even if you just went in and TOLD them it was shuddering or shifting roughly. Maybe I’m wrong.

ok because my dealership appears to be confused... they said the $175 flush would not fix the shudder, and that the $605 flush would... however they havent confirmed yet if the $175 flush uses the new fluid or not... if they confirm that then I will give it a try... or go to a different dealership that knows what theyre talking about

We had quite a bit of rain last sept. the intersection leading to my house was flooded and I stupidly drove through it not realizing how deep it was. So I got all the fluids changed for peace of mind. The invoice states FTF AUTO TRANS FLUSH 20 of 19417577 fluid which is the new Mobile 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP transmission fluid. https://gm-techlink.com/?p=11127 It was a single flush ($175) not a triple flush ($605), but with 34k on it I have never experienced any shudder and have the new fluid.

Take it to another dealer and tell them it has intermittent hard shifts. If it does in fact have the shudder then they should in fact do the single flush with the new fluid. They don't even do the Piccoscope method anymore to prove it has the shudder. I would try and go to another dealer and see what happens.
