Did a few 0-60 mph pulls on the street. Traction is an issue.

What size pulley is on your Whipple? Just got mine together today and saw it has a 3.500, thought they got 3.625 stock.

And I believe you mentioned that you might do the LT4 HPFP and injectors sometime. The back of the Whipple where the oil sight glass is different, Mine is machined to clear the tall pump.

Mine came with the 3.625" upper pulley. I was originally expecting the 3.50" pulley. I questioned Whipple on it. They said the new Whipples have their Gen 3 Rotors which are more efficient, so the boost of a gen 3 with a 3.625" pulley is equivalent to a Gen 2 with the 3.50" pulley.

From what I have read the first Whipples that were released for our cars had issues clearing the LT4 pump. Apparently that was fixed a while back and all of the new ones are suppose to clear the LT4 pump without issues.

Given you are running the LT4 pump and injectors you should be able to take advantage of the extra boost the 3.5" pulley will provide.

When I switch over to the LT4 fueling I will be dropping to a lower upper pulley size.

So per Whipple my kit should come with a 3.625 upper pulley, but the weapon X spec'd group buy part number comes with a 3.500.

Have you measured actual boost pressure with your setup?

Whipple says 3.625=9.5psi, and a 3.500=14psi. Both these numbers seem hi to me. But i do have a boost gauge (P3 multi gauge with the analog boost) installed, so in the end i will know for sure what its actually doing. 14psi scares me on stock internals though.....

Data logging with the HP Tuners I am seeing just over 8 psi boost. I am surprised by the 14 psi for the 3.50. Thought I had heard 1 to 2 psi for 1/8th drop in pulley size.

yeah seems high for both sizes per Whipple. 8 seems right stock. totally agree with you. Find out soon enough what the 3.500 will do. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

So how do you like your Whipple? Anything you would change or do differently looking back at what you did?

Definitely happy with the Whipple. No regrets on my choice. Low end torque is a lot of fun.

Only thing I might have done different is to drop in the LT4 fueling upfront like you did. But I wanted to see the incremental gains both in whp and track times.

Only nuisance is I am still dealing with an intermittent thermostat issue only occurs when I get on the freeway before the car warms up, computer thinks the car should heat up faster than the 160 degree thermostat and tune allows. Been adjusting the fan settings to delay the fan coming on to let it heat up faster. Not an issue with the Whipple it is just their canned tune is not set up for my driving conditions.

When I first considered some sort of power adder, I wanted a Whipple from the start for whatever reason. Just grew up hearing about them and seeing them. Then started leaning towards the procharger with no fuel mods, less expensive and perhaps alittle easier install. But realizing if i wanted more than the normal procharger kit i would have to probably upgrade the fuel system, hence taking it apart for a PD blower anyway. I also kind of learned the prochargers and such are a little better suited for the more close ration of the A8's (I have a M6). So figuring I wanted the Whipple and low end torque, and fueling would need to be upgraded I just went all in with the Whipple. I don't want to get into meth injection or opening up the motor for forged pistons. So really only thing left would be full exhaust and probably a smaller pulley to offset the free flowing exhaust.

Anyways, my car is at the tuners to get a start up tune in it to drive around some before a full on dyno and street tune.

Got my car back on 06/29/18 from the tuners (CSP in West Chester PA). Hot n humid day, around 88 deg and 45% humidity outside. Car made 597 hp & 591 tq. Stock after a baseline tune in April on the same dyno was 429/440, so that gave me a 168/157 gain over stock after they tuned it. Bone stock all factory initial pulls were like 416/427 so gains over bone stock would be 181/164!

They told me the cats we getting really hot and they went conservative on the tune because of that. They recommended I get rid of the cats ASAP. I will be removing the cats this week and get it re-tuned.

Mods: Whipple w/ 3.500 pulley, LT4 HPFP, LT4 injectors, roto-fab dry CAI. I have to double check and make sure the analog boost reading has been calibrated on the P3 gauge, but so far i have seen 10.2 lbs of boost.

Congrats. Looks like the smaller pulley and tune is getting you 2 more pounds of boost over me. Summer is here DA sucks, good time to go to the lake. No upgrades for me until fall. Still hoping to see 10s this fall.

Did a review of my thoughts on the Whipple Supercharger after 2,500 miles. Take a look.

I have the same issue with the noise coming from my supercharger. Mine is audible with the hood closed a couple of feet away. I got the same explanation from Whipple and I don't think there is anything wrong with it. But that being said I will be sending out to Whipple to have it inspected, they said they might be able to adjust it a bit. In my case I find it excessive. Besides that I love the supercharger, very fun to drive.
