Urgent question about custom order

I asked my salesman to leave all the plastics on cause I wanna take it off since I custom ordered it. He refused and said they have to as part of pdi and to make sure there’s no holes in the seats and whatnot.

Is this normal behavior or should I give a lil push?

Yes, what you can ask for is no detailing

Plenty of owners here have taken delivery of their new Camaros with "PDI only, no clean up" leaving plastics on steering wheel and seats. I drove mine home from the dealer, got out and took this picture.

Yep same here. I removed the plastic covers from the seat, keeping them in one piece each and stored them in a box. Also removed the white/green S sticker from the windshield and kept it.

How should I respond if the salesman absolutely refuses?

Just out of curiosity why? Aren't you going to take it off anyway?

Every dealer is different. They have to inspect the seats so there is a bit of liabilty if they don't catch the transport drivers knife that cut the seat edge etc. Like stated no detail is a plus and if you can get to the dealer before your car is touched make sure to go to the trunk and grab the build sheet since you special ordered it, that's the internal DNA of the car and usually one of the first things that gets tossed by the porter.

Talk to the sales manager, and move up the food chain if you don’t get it your way.

It’s your car! I told my dealer when my Black ZL1 off loaded yesterday on the lot. Don’t wash it. It’s gonna go from the carrier dropping at my house straight to my guys to do a full clean, polish, PPF and ceramic coat! They said we totally agree we will not have them touch it.

May I ask why you’re keeping/storing all the plastic? Is the intent to put it back on when you resell your car? They just seem designed to be one-time use disposables.

I only specified to not touch the paint, the rest of the PDI they could do but it still had all the plastic and such, they installed the air dam thingy and removed the blocks, I think that was it.

Yes the 2 seat covers are disposable however they do have tags/bar code/part numbers on them. I simply kept things associated with the entire order, build and delivery process because I wanted to keep them.

I have compiled and documented order/build/shipping dates, kept the build sheet, kept a copy of the invoice, laminated the window sticker, saved a pdf of the window sticker, etc. The peel off plastic cover is still on the touch screen along with the Advanced Air Bag tag hanging from the glove box.

I have swapped the air filter for a green filter and kept the original filter. I installed an E2 catch can and kept the original PCV line. I installed 2SS leather knee pads and kept the original plastic ones.

I have no plans to sell the car, it is just what I wanted to do with the car.
