GM Theft Protection?

Hey guys, in an attempt to make sure I'm not getting shafted by my dealer (they seem to be trying a little bit)
Can anyone tell me what this $300 "theft protection" is? Its listed on my invoice? I was under the impression that vehicles came standard with an alarm and everything.

I've got a manaual and will be keeping it in my garage so I'm not too worried.

Usually, this is the window etching you see on many cars... maybe some additional items, but almost always that's what it is...

I'd inquire very sternly, if this is one of those OBD-II hoggers or even worse, a custom anti-theft device with a ghetto cable setup, I would want to steer clear of that. Even window etching isn't something I'd want, and definitely not as a paid option.

Yes, the car has anti-theft features (fob sensing, immobilizer and alarm) built in, but as we all know, they deter only the most casual thieves these days.

They aren't charging it for any of the built in stuff from chevy, mine didn't have that upcharge and I got a 3LT with almost every bell and whistle available. They need to tell you EXACTLY what that charge covers.

Interesting - are they giving you the $3K if stolen, and $2K for re-lease in writing?
And if insurance is giving even that small discount, I would think the dealer would have to itemize what extra "theft protection" actually consists of?

The Dealer I’m buying the SS from, tried something similar. It was LoJack, nitrogen filled tires and window tint for about $1,300. I finally convinced them to leave all of that off my car, after telling them to just put it in the trunk and install none of it.(it would be a little hard to put the nitrogen in the trunk!

)Stuff like this makes me appreciate my small town Dealer that doesn’t play these games.

Yeah, ill see about getting it in writing tomorrow when I finalize the deal. Strangely I couldn't find any info about this theft protection on the Chevy website outside of showing its offered.

At least they're waving the cost and not touching the car with anything lol.

Yes - good job complaining about it so they decided to just waive it for you! (as probably has minimal value).
