Everything about the lead-up on the CT6 has been pretty un-GM like. Give a glimpse of the car in a commercial. Then a few weeks later, get people talking about the engines. And now they're all secretive about when exactly its going to be unveiled?

Normally, they kinda do the exact opposite. They'll often let everyone know when & where they'll be showing a car. Then they give out details on new engines. Then, after the car has been on sale for a while it might pop up in a commercial.

Its not that I don't appreciate the fact that they're changing things up ... its just so unexpected from GM.

I read on Jalopnik, which is based in NY, that the reveal will be tonight. Don't know when specifically, but at this point, I have to assume that it won't be until this evening.

So couple tidbits that have arisen out of New York...

XTS = dead man walking.

ATS/CTS have no direct replacements. Exactly what that means, I'm not sure. Assuming it's referring to GM building all-new cars (CT?) to replace them rather than next-gens.

Premier should replace LTZ across the Chevrolet lineup.

No XTS sux! When the introduced the Malibu Premier I figured that was where they were going with cars, but are they going to do the same for trucks?

The XTS doesn't fit with Cadillac anymore. It barely fit with the direction the brand was heading when it was introduced. Now CT6 renders it completely irrelevant.

I would assume so.

I liked the sound of Premier at first but it's not growing on me. Almost sounds like something a dealer would slap on a car to try to pass it off as a special edition or something. Maybe once it builds some brand cache it'll be a different story.

It does sound kinda weird. I know I'm going to be calling it 'premium' a lot instead of 'premier', and I doubt I'll be the only one. But there are only so many names available for top of the line trims that haven't been overused or are too corny to be taken seriously.

Do you know if they're going to rename the LS & LT trims as well, or just LTZ?

btw, its cachet ... builds cachet. Building a cache would be gathering a stockpile. Building cachet is developing prestige.

No, L, LS, and LT trims are sticking around. I guess GM doesn't like Zs anymore.

And dammit. I thought that looked weird.

bonus tip ... they're pronounced ca-shay (cachet) and cash (cache).
