Everyone would have deep fried him!

I’m they’re not doing the Charlie Sierra routine with the bandaid and they’re actually owning up to it.
Or, they could have, you know, done the right thing... Crazy concept. They should have put WAY more engineering staff and resources on this issue a LONG time ago... as in years ago. Guys on this board have had good success by zeroing out the slip tables in the TCM. Why couldn’t GM figure that out? A great opportunity was missed by not offering to extend the torque converter warranty on anyone who was affected. GM would have earned a ton of goodwill and loyalty from the Camaro community. But instead, here we are waiting for a possible fix... in 2019.

Great so GM won’t cover the 2019 fix because I’ll be past the 60k/3 year. Even tho it’s documented that I’ve been dealing with it all along?!

That is pure evil.

I was hoping to keep this car, not wanting to lose tons of money on a trade in

Yeah, I don't want this the be a fry Al or GM thread. I called this hours after the official answer, made my case, and moved on. I bring this new information because first and foremost, I am an enthusiast, and I want you guys to be enjoying your car the way you should be able too. It is very possible GM thought the flush would work, or work long enough. In many cases the flush would in fact stop the shudder, often times only temporarily, but still worked. Perhaps it just took more data, more global warranty claims, and more $ spent by GM on LV HP fluid, to really get some attention. I would imagine there will be some "special coverage" for customers with a documented history of shudder, who have fallen out of powertrain warranty. We will have to wait for those answers.

I am not even going to take mine into the dealer for this issue since I was going to buy a converter with a higher stall anyway. I'll just do that and have it tuned.

Just curious if after the 3rd try of failing to fix this shudder issue will this be considered a lemon car in California?

Converter is around $1200, labor would probably be a couple hundred for the install, tune is going to be $500ish.

$2k is about the diff in trade-in vs street value... I’ll be dumping this car if the 2019 fix isn’t covered for the 2016 owners.

Seems silly to dump a really good sports car over a torque converter...? Many of us would upgrade to a better converter anyway. And if it’s $2K to do a bulletproof one, well many people spend that much on just a cat back exhaust. So, I don’t blame people for being pissed, but the fix really isn’t bad at all. Rest of the car seems solid. Just my humble opinion.

A lot of times if it's a known problem that affects everyone, they will issue a warranty extension for that problem. Even if they don't, your problem is documented and still not fixed so GM could goodwill the repair after the warranty is up. Could. Doesn't mean they will, but usually unless it's well past the mileage they will do the right thing.

I have to agree with this logic. It's certainly more in line with traditional hotrodding attitudes.

Going in, you shouldn't expect to have to do anything like that, but when it comes down to the choice between spending $2k on a mod that fixes the problem and throwing away a big chunk of a $40k outlay just to save that $2k - on a car that you may otherwise really like - the $2k mod becomes the more attractive option even from the $ point of view.

You’re covered for 5 years. Bumper to bumper is only 3 years.

Bumper to bumper: 3 year/36k miles
Powertrain: 5 year/60k miles
