Cool Stock 2022 Camaro LT1 A10 + drag pack

First time out with this car. First time to a drag strip in 8 years and I have to say, cars are so much faster these days. Anyway….

Stats…
2022 Camaro LT1 A10
100% stock and full weight + drag pack.
VMS 17x10 rears with 305 45 17 MT ET ST R and 18x5 fronts with 28x4.5 Hoosiers.
Exactly 1/2 tank of 93 octane.
Drove 2.5hrs to track with 26PSI in the MT and kept them there for all 4 passes
Seemed to hook fine. Maybe could have improved 60’ a bit with lower PSI.
It was a street night so track not prepped like a test and tune day and it was HOT!

Density Altitude = 2850
60’ 1.850
1/8 7.904@91.24mph
1/4 12.160@115.84mph

Considering the high DA and weight of the car I thought it did well for a stock car.
This car will have no issues at all getting into the high 11s in October at this track with no other changes needed. I’ve ran in -2000 DA up here in the past.

Sounds pretty good. Mine only ran 12.6 stock.

Might want to ask around about a trans tune. It might be limiting your ability to get better than a 1.8 60 ft, but not sure about your year/trans. But stock trans tune might be causing engine torque mgmt on launch. Did you grab any logs with HPT?

What DA did you run in, weight and was your 12.6 pass with a drag pack?

The tune will come in time after I figure out which way to go with this car NA or FI. Either of the two I don't want extreme, I want a nice midrange setup like my old 4th gen mostly street car. I do know what you mean about the 1.8 60' though. I tried stalling RPM around 1200 or so and that's what gave me the best time despite others saying I need to stab it off idle. When I stabbed it off idle, the car did a weird bogging down kinda thing

No logs, I'm ignorant to ECM/computer tuning. I'm just a wrench turner right now but it's looking like I need to learn more about tuning if I'm going to mod this car vs the 4th gen. I am located in CT so Jannetty is about 1 hr away.

That's real close to what my car ran stock with a drag radial on the back. Don't rememeber it exactly but 12 teens. I also revved mine up to about 1k rpm and then launched, coming off idle did the same to me. Made it kind of bog or delay where it would roll out but not hit with all the power. As you start doing bolt ons the tcm tune will become needed. The torque limitations on the hit will make throttle close or delay it from opening. Lt2 intake manifold, headers and a full drag pack took mine down to 11 teens in the fall, da around 700, not negative stuff. I was fighting the tcm at this point.

That was bone stock incl tires on hot day, around year 2018, so I don't know exact DA... prob 1800-2300 DA, my best 60' at that time was around 2.0...

The bogging is most likely the torque mgmt I was talking about. Engine is closing throttle and/or limiting timing... that's the trans tune issue I was talking about. You'll have a hard time getting better 60' because the ECU is literally trying to prevent that (via the transmission tune settings)

So now I have a baseline for this stock car and I can compare this car to my old 2001 camaro.
First trip with the 2001 was in 2200+DA. Car just had boltons at the time...Full exhaust, lid, ssra and smaller stuff but it was on street tires. It did hook though.
It ran these numbers...
60'...2.092
1/8...8.580
mph...85.32
1/4...13.197
mph...106.93

Right off the bat, this stock 2022 is a full second quicker. I'm pretty excited.

My next step is to go back in Oct for some crazy low DA and get the best possible time so I can compare it with the best time I got with the 2001 from above in Oct DA.

That 2001 in -1245 DA did...
60 1.958
1/8 8.165
mph 88.14
1/4 12.638
mph 110.04
I did add Mickey Thompson Drs for that run though.

As you can see I have all my old data but it doesn't end there either

So next year I'll add the boltons+tune, run it down the 1/4 and compare with the next set of data from the 2001 which had a ss3600 stall and weight reduction

Well there's the answer for the 12.6...street tires and a hot day

So now I know I'm not the only one experiencing this bogging/cutting power and there's nothing wrong with my car. Good to know!
When you got a tune how much did it help your 60'?
I can't wait to get this thing tuned!

So the launch control mode doesn't work well at the track? LT1's have the pitfall of not being able to configure the launch rpm's and etc.. I think it's set to 2100 rpm and can't be moved like in SS's.

IDK about any of that I'm new to this car. What would launch control do for me vs turning off all nannies and launching with the drag pack I have?
I guess if the LT1s don't have launch control it won't matter anyway but after a good tune I wouldn't care about launch control anyway?

I don't have a direct apples to apples comparison because i didnt go back to the track until after i installed the procharger. Ironically i was still stuck at a 1.8 60ft even with a tune and stall converter because of torque management for a different reason. I have hopefully resolved that but haven't been able to test at the track. Im determined to get there this season still.

But on the A8s it was said a trans tune could be worth .2-.4 et in the 1/4 mi at least with forced induction. It sounds like its not as helpful on the A10s, but still worth a tenth or two?

When stock, i could feel the torque mgmt kicking in even during the burnout.

It has launch contro, only issue is that is isn't configurable like in the SS's.

Press traction control button twice (in sport mode). Press the brake pedal really hard with left foot. Press the gas pedal WOT 100%. Engine revs to 2k approx and the engine chops some cilynders, release the brake pedal and you're flying.

My 2017 SS A8 with just a 17" MT on back, plus a (worthless) drop-in air filter inside the unmodified stock airbox, went 11.9@113 in the autumn (1.76 60'). Before this I had run some 12.0s at 114 (1.83~1.85 60') with the bone stock car on the stock runflats in the weeks preceding this run. So for me, I only gained around a tenth from the DR and the (now I know worthless) air filter on the otherwise-stock car.

No question the stock TCM hampers performance of an SS/LT1. For my 2017 T87a, once tuning became an option from HPT, cost was 200 to unlock plus 200 for the credits. That's worth it IMO if you're tuning the ecm anyway and therefore already giving up the warranty. Not sure what the HPT price is on a T93 like you have, but honestly the trans tune helped my car a lot, and I'm talking bolt-on level as well as power adder. Example, with just 17" rear DRs (no skinnies), flex fuel ecm and tcm tuning, the aforementioned worthless air filter, a useless v-max ptb, and a driveshaft loop (extra safety but did add ~6lbs) I ran 11.3@119 with a 1.64 short time.

Guessing that you've never raced on a drag radial? The launch control IMO is calibrated for the stock tires. Once you've installed drag radials, it should hook up without computer intervention. For me, even on the stock SS runflats, I was already turning T/C off for drag racing and not using launch control. Had read that the nannies were slower than driving it yourself, and went with that advice at the time.

Launch control is for the street and not the track. You'll run slower trying to run launch control.

Guess I'll find out soon enough about the A10 dude thanks for the info

Interesting, I'll have to try that on the street thanks

Yeah that's what I thought. I didn't think it would be better than all nannies off and drag pack
