Our local police department just sent out an email about vehicle thefts, and detailed both relay thefts and OBD port thefts. This is happening enough that it's got their attention.

Has anyone here tried the igla or compustar systems? Those are the 2 I’ve narrowed it down to.

On relocation, I was thinking about hooking up two Y cables, which seems like it would further add to the confusion if they decided to go looking under the dash... lots of options! |

Anything to discourage them. Fortunately I don’t feel I need to much. Car is for fun and garaged.

I just recently got IGLA installed, and so far love it!! Modern version of a classic kill switch with some added security features for high threat environments.
It allows retention of all of the modern features that I enjoy with the car such as remote start either via the fob of the MyChevrolet app. It can also be configured different ways depending on what you want, and has convience options if you still want protection but are willing to go with a lower security posture. Currently have mine configured for PIN code use only, blocking normal starts, and preventing the car from being driven away when remote started. Plus a little more. Probably will add a shock sensor to the factory alarm, and also a Compustar Alarm. Neither to prevent the theft, that's what the IGLA is for. but more as deterrents and in the case of the Compustar to notify me of anyone is messing around with the car. Suggest checking out some of the YouTube videos, those are what hooked me. |

After having my car stolen last year I realize it's cheaper to pay the 1k deductible than having a 2k alarm installed.

I think we finally managed to find the starter relay pin in the BCM under the dash after slogging through acdelcotds (it's prob in a thread on this forum, but we couldn't find it here). This is a better option than the PTS button. The timer harness is assembled and tested. We still need to tie in the dummy OBD pigtail and try attaching a diagnostic device to activate it. We'll try to get it into the car in the coming weeks. Again, total DIY cost should be under $100 using parts from Amazon.

Would you post more details, such as photos, diagrams? Maybe others can benefit from your experience as well.

Just taking longer than expected. My buddy is a former professional audio/alarm installer, he's pretty thorough. I couldn't do this without him. He's got a lot of obligations so I have to work around his schedule and availability to help. We spent a number of hours last Sunday looking things over on the car and on acdelcotds, dabbled with the PTS button, determined the ground on the PTS module is only for LEDs... , determined we need the momentary reset button to be "make" not "break" circuit, went out for more colors of wire so everything isn't just red or black, played with different modes on the timer boards, etc. So, with these lessons learned, once we get all the right parts/pieces, we'll resume work again on a weekend. Then we'll get into the physical placement of the siren, the boards, the reset button, tucking away the real OBD, etc. If all of that was figured out in advance and documented well enough, I expect it could be a 2-3 hour install, the worst part is getting under the dash to access the BCM area. Most of the circuit assembly with the boards and siren can done on a bench, if you have a 12 VDC/ground source to test with. We'll try to use posi-taps and avoid splicing to the extent possible. Incidentally, I had a seam on my seat pulling apart near the driver's seatbelt. I took it in for warranty, and I wasn't expecting the service manager guy to plug some wireless collection module thing into my OBD for an upholstery issue... so if you install something like this, be cognizant of what can happen ANY time you take your car for any service. I'm sure the siren would have startled him, for sure, and if I wasn't there, the car would be dead in the service lane. Last edited by Capricio; 02-09-2024 at 02:16 PM. |

Theft protect
What about a switch to the starter and/or fuel pump. Cut the line in the fuse box and switch it.
