Spoiler: adhesive 3M?

I know this question has been brought up previously, but I didn't find enough discussion on it.
I'm thinking of getting a spoiler for my 1LT. I know for a fact that nothing beats the satisfaction that a drilled spoiler will bring. However, I don't have that option. It's a leased car, and I am strictly not allowed to drill holes in the vehicle. Plus, that isn't something i wouldve wanted to do any way because that any non-factory holes may just enhance the possibility of rusting in the Canadian weather.

Can you guys share your experiences with the double sided taped spoilers? I'm wondering if I should get it or let go of it..

Which spoiler? If double-sided tape was good enough to keep a spoiler on then the OEM spoiler would probably come that way. Keep in mind the weather from the hottest summer day to the coldest winter day. Think about the cost and damage if the thing comes loose unexpectedly at highway speed. If you aren't able to secure it correctly then maybe save your money.

This one, the RS style. It only comes with adhesive, so I'm assuming that it stays intact. It can't be drilled, thanks to the lease agreement..

Not a fan myself. I have an Ikon blade on mine like the one in your link. 3M failed twice. Got frustrated and put self-tapping screws through the bottom of it out of frustration, along with new tape. Each application lasted, maybe 3-4 months or so.

Taking a big risk by not securing it w/screws etc, IMO. Skip it if you won’t drill due to the lease.

Let go of it If you get it stuck on there good enough to stay, hard to get it off and not hurt the paint.

This only applies if you do a lease return and embark on that process. What I do with my leases at the end is sell them...the lease has a pay off amount and you avoid all the inspection and mileage nonsense, and can screw on spoilers til your hearts content.

I just removed my RS spoiler so I could run rally stripes below it and down the back of my trunk lid. I was shocked to find the OEM spoiler has 9 total fasteners (6 screws + 3 clips) PLUS 3M tape running around the entire perimeter!

Seems like overkill to me, but the folks in Warren must have a good reason to have all of these fasteners securing this 2 pound piece of plastic.

Fair enough. Guess I'll drill holes and sell the car later after a buyout.

Thanks guys. A friend of mine recently used VHB on his Audi A5. I'll wait to see how it works for him. Been more than a month already but I'll wait for hotter days!

If it’s a lease then no Spoiler is the best option. You can go the double sided tape option but you would have to keep an eye on it and check the tape every so often and if it starts coming off then you’d have to remove and re-apply. Which IMO is a lot of work. If you installed a factory spoiler in factory paint color of the car would anyone really notice the difference when you went to turn the car in?

I used 3M VHB tape on my 1LE spoiler, works just fine and has for months with no issues. Its not coming off, not even if I wanted it to.
