Top Not Secure
Starting this past weekend I have been getting a message after putting the top up that the top is not secure. I hear all the latches closing and everything looks fine but the message won't go away. This also prevents access to the trunk since the trunk won't open if the top isn't secure. If I put the top down, it secures properly and I have trunk access.
It happened all day Saturday. I didn't drive on Sunday, but Monday when I drove to work, the message was gone and everything worked fine. Today I'm getting the message again. The car was bought new 6 weeks ago and has 3100 miles now. I guess I'm taking it to the dealer. |

I would agree on taking it to the dealer, should not be doing that especially at 6 weeks . Please keep us posted on the fix.

And now it's working again. There's not much I hate more than going to the dealer with an intermittent problem.
The earliest I'd be able take it in is Friday. We'll see how it's working then. |

If it happens again, try and see if you can record it on your phone. Show the dash message then pan over to you pressing the close button for the top then walk over and show the trunk not opening and last walk back to show that the message is still showing that the top is not secure. It's a hassle but you know it's going to be working when you take it to the dealer because that is the way it happens, the dealer will not find anything wrong and it will be a waste of your time.

That's a great idea. I always forget the fancy tech I carry around in my pocket.

Update. I took it into the dealer today. They say it's a known issue with the latch actuators and they need to be replaced. They don't have the parts in stock. I'm not super concerned at this point. The issue happens less than once a week and truthfully, I almost never drive with the top up anyway.
But we'll see if replacing the actuators works or not. |

Camaro6 Forum rocks!!! Just about every issue I have on my Camaro, I'm able to find more information using the search function. I've experienced the same "Top Not Secure" issue as reported by the OP. Will be taking my car to the dealership as I drive with my top down every chance I get. Has anyone actually had the actuators replaced and the issue resolved? |

I did a quick search and believe this is the TSB for this issue:

Convertible Top was replaced about 1 1/2 weeks ago. So far so good on the replacement top. They did fix the Top Not Secure issue based on the TSB; error still shows up intermittently. Looks like I may need the latch actuators replaced.

Found an updated TSB:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...39096-9999.pdf Besides the mechanical fix, "reprogramming the top control module is required". Brought my car to the dealership today and they took care of the software update. Drove with my top down (and put it back up) 3 times today and I have not seen the error. Keeping my fingers crossed I won't be visiting the dealership until it's time for the free oil change. |
